I think Act-On would work equally well for small to large companies. If you are less confident or experienced in automation and funneling, Act-On genuinely invests in the expertise to guide and support you so you can be continually learning and developing your skills and application for the platform. You never feel you are in the deep end

For marketing departments pushing multi-channel campaigns and are utilizing UTM parameters and accurate reporting, this tool would help you to attribute dollars to your campaigns. This is not a tool for smaller companies who aren't reporting on these metrics.

Pros

  • Customer service. Act-on is the leader in client support for training, basic tips and trouble shooting to planning our Act-On strategy. The Act-On team is flexible, friendly, engaged and collaborative.
  • Act-On does not over-complicate its offering. It is visually appealing and intuitive. Some platforms are just too complicated to keep on top of. We are a small team with a busy marketing schedule. We do not depend a great deal on online lead generation for our growth, however Act-On is still a good fit for us.
  • Trust. No surprises once we had signed our agreement. In fact, our expectations were exceeded.
  • Value - price for service.

  • Attribute inbound leads to a specific channel. This helps us see which channels perform best for our business.
  • Attribution reporting. I can use Salesforce reports to apply different attribution models to different touchpoints and have my percentage and revenue automatically calculated.
  • Paid ad optimization. Bizible automatically pulls in paid ad spend and calculates ROI.

Cons

  • Program automation: the only feature I miss from Eloqua, which I used in a previous role, is the drag and drop canvas for building out a drip campaign. Act-On's functionality works perfectly, but the fact it's all listed in one vertical line makes it slightly more difficult to visualize the flow. Having said that, the tools are all there, it could just do with some extra visualization when it comes to making complex programs.
  • Website prospector. This is one of the features I use very heavily and although the new version recently launched is a big improvement, there's still room for more info. It's by no means bad, but I'd like to see some extra info in here.
  • Forms: Id like to see a more visual formbuilder, in line with the landing page improvements recently made. The form works great but are quite plain visually. This could be improved and remove the need for extra tools in WordPress/other programs.

  • Bizible's attribution window is only 30 minutes, so if a lead takes longer than 30 minutes to fill out a form, the attribution is incorrectly given to Web Direct.
  • Bizible's dashboard is not very helpful for reporting other than paid ad spend. Their dashboard is not a waterfall model.
  • Out of the box native Salesforce reporting still needs to be fully customized.

It's good, but not quite brilliant. Some parts of the interface are still a bit outdated. The product has been evolving very fast, though, and I believe in a few months it will be up there with the best of them, interface wise as well.

Act-On had a lot of resources, and their staff was great at answering any questions I had to make sure we got started on the right foot. Looking back, I would have preferred some additional training sessions since we didn't have any previous experience with Marketing Automation and best practices.

Alternatives Considered

Compared to SharpSpring, Act-On has it's act together. SharpSpring is obviously a value tool in comparison. Our major issue with SharpSpring was Salesforce integration; we constantly had issues with leads being re-uploaded, data changing or not changing when it was supposed to, or many other syncing issues that caused many headaches and a lot of clean-up time. I did prefer SharpSpring's anonymous visitor tracking and e-mail creation, but it simply wasn't worth the discounted price to deal with the headaches. The ease of setting up automation and integrating it with Salesforce made Act-On 100% worth the upgrade, and I wish we hadn't spent a few months trying to make something else work for us.

  • Being able to determine the buyer's journey across channel
  • True ROI not just what was the last or the first touch - example - statistics say it takes 7-10 touches before someone engages (fills out of form) with you-you are paying for those 7-10 touches but aren't able to actually attach a revenue to those touches with traditional MAP systems - you can really only capture the last thing they did - but all the other affected. With Bizable you can see and now you can justify your budget much more accurately. Data vs. gut.
