If you have an existing CRM system, like Microsoft 365, you can integrate campaign automation with Act-On, and then it is worth most of the time it takes to get less-experienced employees on-boarded. In other cases that require more minimal use, the on-boarding may be too lengthy. In that case, it may be better-suited to choose a different SaaS that tracks campaign, ROI, lead scoring, etc.

1. Be sure to specify and understand the impact on your model when looking at volume versus value factors. 2. Ask all your potential vendors about set-up costs and time.3. Understand, with any predictive model, how it will affect both marketing and sales - a predictive tool should bring the two closer together.4. Remember - its predictive, not all-knowing and brief/train your teams accordingly.

Pros

  • It's been really easy to get started with Act-On! There are great step-by-step guides inside the platform on what you need to do in order to start using the system, and if any of the steps are unclear you can simply go to Act-On University to get a more detailed description.
  • So far I've been in contact with my CSM (customer success manager), technical support, the area manager and the creative team and everyone has provided competent and friendly service.
  • It's really simple to re-use assets such as forms, emails and landing pages. It saves our team a bunch of time since you almost never need to start over from scratch. To edit the assets is really simple through drag and drop functionality with great flexibility.

Cons

  • More training - There are features I haven't used, due to lack of knowing how to use them. The team has offered to train me on these, I just need to take them up on the offer!
  • Email lists - Sometimes if I remove an opt-out from one list, they are still included in another list. This can just be a source of time-consumption as I have to go find where else the contact is in our account.

  • A little more explanation of how different factors can affect the model in terms of the customer objectives - they've really listened here and have really focussed on the changes we needed to make.
  • Update specific fields/features e.g. multi-currency support (now done), non-confusing field names (being released), custom fiscal years for reporting (coming I believe)

Alternatives Considered

I chose Act-On from a listing of about 15-20 systems for automated cloud-based digital marketing. Act-On offered the best email marketing system for me by a wide margin. I needed a versatile, easy to use, and comprehensive system to create attractive marketing communication vehicles, have the capability to incorporate forms, check lists, document/photo inclusions, and other basics so I could create professional advertising to be sent and results tracked. Act-On offered all of this for a very good price in a size package that fit my needs very well. Overall, the compelling attraction was infinite access to helpers without limitation or extra cost.
