Act-On

I think it's a great platform to get started with, it's easy to manage things by yourself and you therefore can decrease your dependence on an (expensive) third party. For us who have an IT department in house as well as a content team it's been working great to be able to manage the majority of the setup on our own, However, don't hesitate to use additional services since this can really give you a boost forward.

It’s fantastic for a list-based generation. I’ve been in a number of fortune 500-row class organizations using the tool and for the most part, there’s very little and can’t do.

Pros

  • It's been really easy to get started with Act-On! There are great step-by-step guides inside the platform on what you need to do in order to start using the system, and if any of the steps are unclear you can simply go to Act-On University to get a more detailed description.
  • So far I've been in contact with my CSM (customer success manager), technical support, the area manager and the creative team and everyone has provided competent and friendly service.
  • It's really simple to re-use assets such as forms, emails and landing pages. It saves our team a bunch of time since you almost never need to start over from scratch. To edit the assets is really simple through drag and drop functionality with great flexibility.

  • Predictive Insights is a very successful tool for us. Out click rates and conversion are always high when we use this tool.
  • Unica Web Analytics is what our Senior Management loves to see results and reporting from .
  • Unica support is always fast and helpful.

Cons

  • A more coherent interface.
  • Data studio needs to be a bit more mature.
  • A more contact oriented, less list oriented approach could be useful.

  • IBM Campaign is a tool for enterprise organisations with large and complex data content, with the introduction of IBM Marketing Cloud (dubbed Unica Lite) this will allow access to the power of this tool to smaller organisations. To use a previous reviewers comment "It's VERY involved. Hire a an integrator and educator!" - this is an involved integration process and the right training can make it very easy to use.
  • IBM Campaign by itself lacks data visualisation within it's module, additional modules within IBM's EMM suite does allow data visualisation but as within any additional module it does come with the IBM price tag.

I am extremely happy with Act-On's platform and their service. The service for support and account management is one of the best around. I have always received a timely response and have always felt that my account manager or support person owned the problem or request and did everything they could do to solve it or answer any question I may have had.

It's good, but not quite brilliant. Some parts of the interface are still a bit outdated. The product has been evolving very fast, though, and I believe in a few months it will be up there with the best of them, interface wise as well.

I had a question about tracking our emails in CRM. I sent a few and then noticed they were not in the history. We have to keep everything centralized in that system and I was scared I wouldn't be able to leverage Act-On the way I wanted to. I sent in a support ticket, received the first response within 20 minutes, and had my answer within the hour!

Act-On had a lot of resources, and their staff was great at answering any questions I had to make sure we got started on the right foot. Looking back, I would have preferred some additional training sessions since we didn't have any previous experience with Marketing Automation and best practices.

I had a dedicated integration/setup person who was excellent. And they brought on specialized people as needed to help with certain things (DKIM setup, lead scoring setup, etc).

- We had to rebuild a part of the datamart afterwards to tighten up and simplify the selection process. But as it was too time consuming to rebuild all the existing campaigns, we no run campaigns on different versions of the datamart. - The response tracking of the campaigns never worked out well, it was impossible to implement a direct response where there is a link between the lead and the response in our operational process

Alternatives Considered

We use multiple platforms for different clients. SharpSpring is great for clients that are new to the content marketing game and haven't had much of a business development / CRM tracking process in place while Act-On has a more robust platform with a larger suite of options. Streamsend and Constant Contact are adequate for email marketing - keeping it simple. They have easier templates and are much more user-friendly, but aren't adequate at integrating web traffic, analytics and lead nurturing data. Cvent was very clunky and I'm thankful I don't have to use that system any longer. That was a system designed for email marketing and lead conversion for events only and I never did get the hang of it.

The contact history and the response history are so powerful. You can track whatever you want to help the call center to push relevant offers to our customer. In addition, predictive models can be built, with patience, in IBM Campaign. If you have some complaints from the call center about any campaigns, you can easily validate it into the contact or response history.

  • We've been able to pinpoint engaged prospects based on their responses and behaviors to a mix of digital marketing efforts.
  • We've streamlined our webinar creation, marketing, and analysis.
  • We've been able to build workflows and triggers in Salesforce that help automate the sales process based on Act-On activities such as form completion.

  • It is feasible use a control group on our Unadress Mail campaigns, what was impossible in the past.
  • We can calculate the ROI for each campaign
  • We know where our competitors are developping their network
