I think Act-On would work equally well for small to large companies. If you are less confident or experienced in automation and funneling, Act-On genuinely invests in the expertise to guide and support you so you can be continually learning and developing your skills and application for the platform. You never feel you are in the deep end

I feel that this is a very good email marking system. You really can accomplish any task needed for your email marketing needs. I think that if a few key features were added, it would really take Lyris HQ over the top. We are very happy with this product and we tell our clients about it when they ask us.

Pros

  • Customer service. Act-on is the leader in client support for training, basic tips and trouble shooting to planning our Act-On strategy. The Act-On team is flexible, friendly, engaged and collaborative.
  • Act-On does not over-complicate its offering. It is visually appealing and intuitive. Some platforms are just too complicated to keep on top of. We are a small team with a busy marketing schedule. We do not depend a great deal on online lead generation for our growth, however Act-On is still a good fit for us.
  • Trust. No surprises once we had signed our agreement. In fact, our expectations were exceeded.
  • Value - price for service.

  • Makes it easy to run segments and execute marketing campaigns. It's really very simple to send out a campaign. Even a beginner can do it with minimal training.
  • The campaign calendar showing what's been scheduled and what's already been sent is awesome.
  • Lyris HQ is extremely cost-effective compared to other email service providers.

Cons

  • As with all new entrants into the market, there are features to make it better...however there is a product request hub which is regularly monitored, for me its acceleration of these ideas into the platform.
  • Deeper integration with Google Analytics to understand traffic coming onto the site, from what channel/source and attributing this to the contact/lead and funnel reports.
  • Out-of-box data out integrations with BI solutions such Tableau and MS Power BI.
  • A full marketplace of vendors who can connect with Act-On e.g. SMMS, IP Tracking, Call Tracking.

These features are the right-size for us. Period. End. We could go cheap and go back to how we use to "market" but that wasn't engagement and we didn't know what our members were seeing and interested in. Through Act-On we have an affordable and easy platform that hits nearly every one of our needs.

Overall Lyris HQ was a great product. The only negative I have and I'm not sure this is still the case as I've been away from them for almost 8 months, is their support has some room to grow. And they need to work drastically on their API offerings and at least cover the major programming languages.

Everything is there, sometimes it just takes a while to realize where it is or just how much the platform can do for you. If you dont use the system everyday it takes a bit of time to remember where you found things. Overall though its pretty easy to figure out

Act-On had a lot of resources, and their staff was great at answering any questions I had to make sure we got started on the right foot. Looking back, I would have preferred some additional training sessions since we didn't have any previous experience with Marketing Automation and best practices.

Implementation was one of the most painful parts for us as we had to find and create our own library to interface with Lyris's SOAP API interface which still to this day is one of the top libraries used in its language.

Alternatives Considered

These systems are all great and very robust, but they count each email sent against the monthly count, which is not always ideal for a company that sends high volume, and high frequency marketing campaigns each month. That is probably the greatest selling point of Act-On, that I can keep a base of customers under a certain limit, and send to them unlimited

Return on Investment

  • Act-On is the only system I've used, other than my CRM. in fact, I have not used the CRM very much, since the Act-On data base is sufficient for my needs at this point, since I'm able to create contact segments easily.
  • Since I'd be comparing Act-On to nothing, there is no useful ROI data. I'm also the only employee, although I have contract people using different features of Act-On.
