Act-On

I think Act-On would work equally well for small to large companies. If you are less confident or experienced in automation and funneling, Act-On genuinely invests in the expertise to guide and support you so you can be continually learning and developing your skills and application for the platform. You never feel you are in the deep end

Pros

  • Customer service. Act-on is the leader in client support for training, basic tips and trouble shooting to planning our Act-On strategy. The Act-On team is flexible, friendly, engaged and collaborative.
  • Act-On does not over-complicate its offering. It is visually appealing and intuitive. Some platforms are just too complicated to keep on top of. We are a small team with a busy marketing schedule. We do not depend a great deal on online lead generation for our growth, however Act-On is still a good fit for us.
  • Trust. No surprises once we had signed our agreement. In fact, our expectations were exceeded.
  • Value - price for service.

  • Navigation is confusing, not intuitive.
  • Creating and changing users must be done by a ticketing request.
  • Horrific support, all email and overseas, rarely talk to anyone.
  • There are issues in practically every area. There are inconsistencies with sharing of contacts, sharing of client and CRM data. For example, only the owner of the campaign can see reports on that particular campaign. There are sharing inconsistencies throughout the entire program that just do not make sense.
  • There is also an unusually high amount of undelivered mail, and a very high SPAM occurrence. Much higher than our backup, MailChimp for example.

I had a question about tracking our emails in CRM. I sent a few and then noticed they were not in the history. We have to keep everything centralized in that system and I was scared I wouldn't be able to leverage Act-On the way I wanted to. I sent in a support ticket, received the first response within 20 minutes, and had my answer within the hour!

Act-On had a lot of resources, and their staff was great at answering any questions I had to make sure we got started on the right foot. Looking back, I would have preferred some additional training sessions since we didn't have any previous experience with Marketing Automation and best practices.

Alternatives Considered

HubSpot - Great templates for email and landing pages. Fantastic for targeted content if you have a large amount of content. Free CMS. Very good sales people promise a lot. But for our test experience, the service support did not stand up to Act-On. And our HubSpot testing indicated that costs would be hard to control as the help desk was of little help with basic problems - always handing us over to consultants who charge for support. The free CMS seemed like a no-brainer in comparisons but we became concerned that if we used HubSpot as our CMS, we may struggle to disentangle ourselves if we needed to in the future. Act-On is not as sophisticated as HubSpot. But for support - which you will need unless you are an experienced platform user - it is critical to our success. It also comes down to how much time you have to learn the system you have chosen - you only get out what you put in. Act-On is simpler and a better fit for our smaller team
