Act-On

Act-On is great for companies who have multiple people managing marketing and sales programs. Each person will get their own log in and access to certain (or all) areas of the software. Alerts can be created when prospects reach certain stages of programs which means marketers don't need to constantly monitor lead scores or anything like that. Also, designers can log in and create landing pages, copywriters can login in and upload content and managers can login and build programs. There's no stepping on each other's work either. Team management is very good. Act-On is also great if you have multiple customer profiles. Act-On allows you to create programs designed to capture many leads across your customer profile. Act-On would be overkill for the small B2C client. A small business that uses email to manage newsletters and product announcements will find Act-On to be much, much more than they need. Act-On can certainly do these things but so can MailChimp at a much lower price point. There would be many features in Act-On that this client simply would never use. If your company uses a custom CRM, Act-On won't be the best fit. I imagine you would need to hire a developer (or commit an in-house developer) to a large project of integrating your CRM with Act-On. Otherwise, you'll be importing and exporting list data on a regular basis.

Vero

Vero is well suited for basic email marketing if you have a great developer or development team on your staff. You can expect basic tracking like opens and clicks, but do not expect additional tracking or reports outside of this. Vero truly is a basic marketing automation software hence its price reasonableness in comparison to competitors.

Pros

Act-On

  • Delivers all (most important) features a marketeer needs
  • Intuitive
  • Great support
  • Friendly pricing
  • Fast paced feature development
Harold Klaassen profile photo

Vero

  • Email template editor allowed our developers to design emails to looks like beautiful marketing emails or basic personal emails.
  • The Vero API allowed our developers to connect triggers and events from our visitors to kick start campaigns.
  • Campaign flows were fairly easy to create and define.

Cons

Act-On

  • We could use more contextual content features to use on landing pages
  • The landing page editor could still be improved
  • Social media management could be better; more like Hootsuite
Harold Klaassen profile photo

Vero

  • Naming conventions. Some items, once given a name, could not have the name changed.
  • User-friendliness of interface for non-developers. Vero is certainly built with the developer in mind and a marketer/user cannot do much before a developer configures everything.
  • Absolutely terrible if you are hoping to use Vero as a CRM. To its credit, it does not claim to be a CRM.

These features are the right-size for us. Period. End. We could go cheap and go back to how we use to "market" but that wasn't engagement and we didn't know what our members were seeing and interested in. Through Act-On we have an affordable and easy platform that hits nearly every one of our needs.

I have worked with Kyle Guioa and Mitch Vanderwall many times whenever I have had questions about anything and they are so good about setting up trainings and answers questions. They always get right back to you via email or phone and the whole customer service experience with them has been nothing but positive.

Act-On had a lot of resources, and their staff was great at answering any questions I had to make sure we got started on the right foot. Looking back, I would have preferred some additional training sessions since we didn't have any previous experience with Marketing Automation and best practices.

Alternatives Considered

Act-On

As a company, it's much more organized, much more in contact with customers, and much more willing and able to pick up their feedback and incorporate it into the product. Pricing wise, it's also much more balanced, with a fairer price mode. It's also more agnostic, in terms of CRM and other integrations. The partner program is also clearer, and IMHO better.
Diogo Cabral profile photo

Vero

Vero's price tag is far more attractive but for what you will find to be clear and obvious reasons. Vero has no CRM unlike HubSpot and Infusionsoft. Vero also has limited tracking unlike the seemingly endless possibilities offered from HubSpot which as we all know comes with at a significant cost, often not feasible by a small startup company.

Return on Investment

Act-On

  • It has allowed us to capture and nurture leads in a way we've never been able to do before.
  • We can create more robust and segmented/tailored messages which was something we could not do previously.
  • We can now track our efforts and compare campaigns and efforts to help us to continuously improve communications.
Nannette Nolan profile photo

Vero

  • Some campaigns have led visitors to complete a task they originally left incomplete
  • We have seen new customer signups from a particular email series campaign
  • Thanks to the help of our great developers, Vero has actually been a great software for this stage of the startup
