This appliance is well suited for organizations that have a need to monitor, moderate, or log social networking site use or the use of any website. It is a very solid tool for any information security department to have at their disposal.

Hootsuite Enterprise

Hootsuite is great if you want to monitor one or more accounts. Specifically, if you are trying to build out a social calendar. Hootsuite makes it easy to develop a thorough content calendar while also promoting/posting things in real-time. If you want to boost interaction with consumers/followers, Hootsuite makes it easy to see mentions and interaction and then tweet back to other users.If you are unsure of your social goals, I would say Hootsuite might not be for you, as it pertains to more advanced levels of social media marketing.

Pros

  • Filtering capabilities for both URL and Social Media were easy to implement and manage by the security team. These features allow you to grant or deny access to various user groups as needed all the way to an individual grant or deny. It offers a vary large robust list of configuration options.
  • If you have a need for storing and later discovering Instant Messaging conversations or even messaging in social media then this is the tool to deploy. At that time when we chose this product, none of the other products were capable of meeting the feature set that Actiance offered.
  • Ease of deployment. Its abilities for integration with LDAP and Active directory give a wide set of deployment options.

  • Hootsuite has been a valuable tool for enabling multiple members of the team to work efficiently and comfortably since each login profile can set their dashboard up as they wish. That's something that we haven't had before and makes things much easier for each one of our team members.
  • Since there are multiple logins Hootsuite makes it much easier to keep track of what team member is managing what conversation. It allows us to make sure that all of the incoming questions are answered and that no one person gets too overloaded. It also makes it easy to assign things to some other departments that are set up to respond/monitor specific posts as well.
  • Hootsuite offers many opportunities to learn! There are webinars that pop up often and Hootsuite University is full of handy modules that can help make life easier for our Social Support team. We're much better off for having those opportunities to increase our own knowledge!

  • Its configuration options were very large and required a good deal of time to learn all of the various settings.

  • Currently, university LinkedIn accounts cannot be linked through Hootsuite, so we still have to log in separately to manage that account.
  • I wish we could customize the look and feel of the dashboard a bit.

Its not often that you come across a platform that is as easy to deploy as this one was. Once deployed it is an easy configure and forget appliance, but then you wouldn't get to benefit from its many other available features.

• Usability is one of the great strengths of HootSuite. It has a simple, clean and uncluttered user interface which means that the software is very intuitive and self-explanatory.
• Scheduling could not be simpler. We can explain how to do it to our interns in just a few minutes

Would rate it a 10. We received two hours of online training and it was of very high-quality. HootSuite also offers HootSuite University which is an extremely comprehensive training portal with self-paced quizzes, training webinars and videos, best-practice papers, product certification, and access to a network of external experts. This is a fantastic resource.

Alternatives Considered

This was the only appliance of its kind that I have used. Other devices have different capabilities for web filtering such as the checkpoint firewalls, but none of them offered the overall solution that was deployed with this product at that time.

• We had tried Sprout Social, primarily for posting and monitoring. Sprout had a great UI – perhaps a bit more modern than the HootSuite UI: It’s very intuitive and easy-to-use, but it didn’t have filtering. It presented one big stream. HootSuite allows filtering so that data can be categorized and presented in different columns. Sprout Social did had a great Twitter lookup tool which provided an easy way for me to pull up all my Twitter conversations with someone. This is the greatest tool ever. HootSuite doesn't have it. Also, Sprout Social does not have the same adoption as HootSuite, and that wide adoption made us feel more secure. For us HootSuite Enterprise was better choice.
