Conga ActionGrid

Overall, I enjoy using Conga ActionGrid. It helps us store our large candidate pool, while continuously adding more candidates every day. With a quick search we are able to find these candidates and then match them to a job that they might be a good fit for. After we create a packet for them to present to hiring managers

Clarizen

It's really well suited to keeping you on task and sharing information with your team. It's not great if you need to export data. And since lots of people use older tools like MS Project, chances are you will have to export. I'd highly recommend this for internal projects or projects where most of the team is internal. It's very easy to use and a lot more functionality that is useful to my day to day work than MS Project offers

Pros

  • Organization
  • Filtration

  • Adding files and documentation to projects aided in tracking activities and collaboration.
  • The collaboration features of the tool allowed for a group of software developers to collaborate well together even if they were not all physically together in the same location or working in the office at the same time. This would be helpful for those who have virtual teams spread across geographies and time zones.
  • Clarizen was flexible enough to support both PMBOK and AGILE methodologies

Cons

  • It can be very slow, but it is taken with a grain of salt because our system has tons of data in it
Kyle Rapaport profile photo
  • Integration – any SAAS provider has to have seamless integration in mind. They have a lot of work to do, but they are getting there. The amount of development required has been very intensive to get it to work
  • Clarizen can only accept data imports (data loads) from MS Project – because of that we couldn’t import data from Basecamp. That means we have had to continue to use Basecamp in parallel to finish those projects.
  • Only accepting MS project for imports is a huge oversight
  • Communication with 3rd parties e.g. customers – Basecamp does that much better.
  • They are based in Israel, so that presents a few challenges like you cannot access on Fridays (Saturday in Israel). They now have opened a small office in San Francisco to alleviate this problem

It is easy to configure, intuitive. The customization process is in some ways better than Salesforce.com. It has a great UI. It does however depend on how it's implemented.

The design of it is generally fine, however the ability to data upload people from a spreadsheet is an obvious miss.

Sometimes it is slow when everyone is entering their time on Fridays or Mondays but other than that we rarely see downtime and maintenance notifications are well in advance.

• Extremely responsive to emails, phone calls etc.
• Will stay on an issue. We have had several issues on custom development side, and they will work on tirelessly until done and push a hot fix just for us
• Don’t seem to be as bureaucratic as Salesforce.com to escalate a case

• We worked with a Project Manager on their side. He was very good about developing a project plan to hit our goal. I think we had weekly or twice weekly calls – very steady cadence over 3 month period.
• Their PM skills were great – kept us on task. For the last week, they sent 2 people on site and they did training for power users. After that a couple of them revisited here

Our trainer, Alex, is exceptional and knows the product really well. I swear he must have wrote the product himself! His manner with training is very easy going, gives you homework that is applicable to what you need to learn and stages it correctly for you. It was a pleasure to be trained by him.

I performed the implementation with our Clarizen provide trainer, who knew the product 100% and it went quickly and without a problem. It was a pleasurable process without the problems other software implementation often encounter. Kudos to the Clarizen team for making this a worry free process for their clients because it is worry free.

Alternatives Considered

I've only used Salesforce before and am now using Conga ActionGrid. Although Salesforce is great, it is only used to log candidate information and then log actions that have been performed. With Conga ActionGrid, we are able to log more specific details about candidates, activities and follow up items. Conga ActionGrid provides more tools that would benefit many departments

I did not select Clarizen but would not, given the task in the future. It was not user-friendly to the employees, as mentioned before, and seemed to have a lot of gratuitous features that go unused. We now use Open Air for time sheets and Slack for office communication and Trello for project management.

  • When I was using clarizen for project management I used this everyday to help manage projects. It was an effective way to see how many hours were taken up for each resource and plan accordingly
