Conga ActionGrid

Overall, I enjoy using Conga ActionGrid. It helps us store our large candidate pool, while continuously adding more candidates every day. With a quick search we are able to find these candidates and then match them to a job that they might be a good fit for. After we create a packet for them to present to hiring managers

Planview Enterprise One (formerly Planview Enterprise and Troux)

Planview works well for large, well defined projects that follow a waterfall or iterative methodology with resourcing needs across various areas within the company or division. Though it does have support for Agile, it is not an Agile project management tool. For companies using Agile, there are other tools specifically designed to support that methodology. Planview can interface with these tools so you can have single view into an organization's capacity and demand management. The tool also requires a fair amount of discipline at a corporate level. The company needs to make a commitment to fully embrace the tool in order to receive the maximum benefit.

Pros

  • Saving candidate information
  • Creating packet templates
  • Matching candidates to potential jobs

  • Resource Management. By scheduling resources against projects and BAU work in the tool it makes it is easier for us to identify over and under utilisation and enables us to make those important priority calls.
  • Portfolio Management. The portfolio capabilities of the tool provide Portfolio Managers with a quick and easy way to view the current status of their portfolio including milestones, finances, changes, risks and issues.
  • One stop shop for Project Managers. There's no Excel spread sheets, Word documents or other templates that project managers have to use or for the PMO to find to report on as everything is in one place in Planview Enterprise.
  • Projectplace. Projectplace provides a platform for easy project collaboration which along with Planview Enterprise's more traditional style of project management creates an extremely strong package.

Cons

  • Sometimes Conga goes slower when using it at a high volume
  • Being able to pull more data through LinkedIn and Indeed
  • Job match function

  • I think the UI could do with being modernised. Some of the screens in versions pre 11.4 are a little fiddly and old fashioned. We've recently upgraded from 11.1 to 11.4 and have noticed a big improvement in the UI, particularly the Work Manager (now Work and Resource Management) and the Resource Assignment Manager (now Resource Management and Assignments). Something to look forward to is the new Timesheet which is coming in one of the next releases.
  • Reporting. The current Analytics and Reporting portal can be clunky at times although there are bigger things coming up in future releases such as "next generation ribbon" which embeds reports for line of sight portfolio analysis as well as the introduction of Microsoft Power BI which will enable users to customise their reports and reporting dashboards with ease.

We have been a Planview customer since 1999 and have seen it grow and mature as a tool. We have looked at other tools and have found that PV continues to meet our needs and is easy for our resources to use. They work to stay up on the project management industry and the direction it is going, keep on on current technology so that we can work more effectively, provide excellent customer support and have great pricing for what they offer. We can purchase only the modules we need versus buying a tool where we would only use a portion of the functionality.

The previous version didn't have as many rich features available on the web (right clicks, sub-menus, etc.) that would have sped up productivity on many screens.

We are long time Planview users and its availability is only limited to our internal SLAs for nightly backups. I have never experienced any unexpected or prolonged software downtime from Planview itself.

Always have a pre-implementation meeting or conference call with Planview to ensure all are on the same page, disclosure of all and any customization (including reports) and plan for support after implementation of a specified amount of time with the assigned implementation resource. And document everything

Alternatives Considered

It's excellent. It really helps optimize a search.

As previously stated Planview provided the enterprise view needed into work and resources as well as allowed for better reporting. Users could perform work based on their license type that could be configured by role. It held historical data that could be leveraged later as needed, is web based, so there was no individual client installation needed and the support offered by Planview made it easy to maintain and/or upgrade the tool as needed. It also was easy for our endusers to learn and use.

  • We haven't measured this yet, but are able to use Planview to automate many of the manual reports and things we have been doing.
  • In week one of implementing time tracking, we had 82% compliance. As of week 4, we have 84% compliance.
