I can only speak for our environment, but it has allowed us to get away from the unfriendly Informatica PowerCenter workflow schedule. And coordination of Informatica/Tableau/ICEDQ has been a BIG help to us. We have not tried to drill down to the Informatica session-level of detail, just stayed with running workflows. The session-level logic seemed complicated.

I have a software web app development background, so we considered hand-rolling an in-house MYSQL application for our needs. But, programming a home-grown web app also requires a dedicated programmer and some deep thought regarding specifications. Within just a couple of hours, I developed a tool in Zoho Creator (easily expandable) that accomplished the same tasks. It saved us a considerable amount of frontend and backend programming. Nothing can truly fit EVERY need, so some extremely specialized applications might find Zoho Creator limiting, but for the bulk of normal, everyday database management, Zoho Creator is an excellent tool. The fringe cases where Zoho Creator's off-the-shelf abilities may not be enough could be addressed in a number of creative ways, be it linking to outside data or using their custom programming language to hand-code specific needs. It is very, very powerful. The only place where it may not be appropriate is if someone needed extensive front-end customization (although data can still be pulled using its API for display externally). It may be too powerful for extremely basic needs. Overall, however, it is hard to find fault with this system.

    Pros

    Advanced Systems Concepts, Inc.

    • File management - moving, archiving, and folder cleanup are a drag-and-drop breeze. The visual representation of file management steps includes date/time filtering, file/folder/both specification, and recursion all in an easy and intuitive unit.
    • FTP/SFTP/FTPS - while one must still write the FTP scripts, the interface simplifies much of the infrastructure, allowing the developer to encapsulate the script text in a graphical package that is easy and intuitive.
    • PowerShell integration - for anything that isn't easy in ActiveBatch's GUI, simply drop in a PowerShell step and write the task in PoSh - anything returned from PoSh can then be used by the following steps.

    • The ease of creating data collecting forms. Anything from creating a form to import all your old excel documents to creating a mobile on-site application where you can input data directly into the app. For a company like us this can help to eliminate the pen and paper approach to recording data.
    • Reporting features are excellent. Slicing and dicing the data from your forms to create any report is possible. Think of it has filters on steroids. The ability to combine data from different forms is a huge plus.
    • Dashboards! Zoho Creator has so much depth to it that it's easy for one to get lost if they are not as familiar with Creator, for example an exuctive or decision making manager. This is where dashboards come in. Admins can build intuitive and smart dashboards that combine all the relevant KPI's that a manager needs to see.

    Cons

    Advanced Systems Concepts, Inc.

    • While I like being able to reuse scheduling objects and the like, more work needs to be done to help one not reinvent the same scheduling object without realizing it and to then find scheduling objects that have similar schedules even if they are worded slightly differently than what I'm expecting. It needs to be "smarter". It was easy to accumulate a pool of scheduling objects that while named differently, had exactly the same schedule. It was also hard to sift through to find the little differences between similarly named scheduling objects.
    • The logger had a clean enough interface but it could be more legible and offer contextual help to describe the messages one is reading. I remember trying to read black text on a medium gray background with Courier size 10-11 font. Not so easy to read quickly and to parse through the relevant parts. I think some selective color coding would be good and links to message definitions or any form of further information would be nice. Maybe the ability to export the log file to various formats would also be helpful.
    • I don't remember a dashboard that at a glance on the top level would highlight what jobs failed completely and which jobs might have warnings or non-critical errors. I got emails because I defined to get them. Maybe again if there was a way to color-code the type of error would be good nice-to-have.

    • None, really. They have gone to a new interface which appears to be trying to be more user friendly. I'm not a fan because the power of ZOHO Creator is the ability to free script or (script builder) , which you can still do, but you need to navigate a dashboard designed for people who should probably look for off the shelf solutions.

This app really fits our needs and reduces manual processes by integrating with other Zoho apps, mainly Zoho Finance. The support team is awesome and the platform continues to push the boundaries of what's possible with a low-code/no-code solution.

      Usability

      Advanced Systems Concepts, Inc.

ActiveBatch's usability is where it shines. It is pretty straight-forward to learn and administer. Our engineers like it because you can use a GUI to manage it or leverage the command line & api's. You can also create templates or clone existing "jobs" so you don't have to recreate the wheel. It is easy to chain jobs together to make them run in a specific sequence as well.

I gave 7 because it is better for internal use and internal solutions. If you need something to deliver to your clients (you will give them access to it), then you will have to work hard to give the layout a better look, and not use the using the standard template layout, which it's possible to do, but it will need an extra work.

We have been pretty happy with ActiveBatch support so far. Luckily, we have not had any major issues with it - so we haven't logged a lot of support tickets. The response time to tickets is about average and the level of expertise of the support engineers seems about average as well. Our sales team has been helpful in getting faster responses when necessary as well.

I recommend Zoho Creator very often. A lot of companies go big earlier than they need to and spend way too much on SalesForce & Marketo. I worked for a small company with some limited budget that pivoted to sell it's product to the Enterprise. Zoho Creator was incredibly easy to set up, intuitive to use, and contains all the most essential features that most users need and seek in SalesForce. We integrated with MailChimp & Unbounce and were able to be incredibly useful in acquiring leads, nurturing them, and tracking pipeline in Zoho Creator. Our small sales team found it very easy to use and loved it.

We looked at several other workload automation solutions and hands down we all looked at each other after seeing the demo and we all understood the genius of the application. To be honest we were all stunned and talked about it for weeks afterward. It didn't even compare to the other platforms we had demos of. We knew instinctively that this was the one.

Lower cost and easier implementation. I had been creating "cloud" solutions using active server pages (ASP) with a MS Access directory back-end before Zoho Creator. I did not want the worry of maintaining a server and required an easier way to build database forms. I was one of the very first users of Zoho Creator soon after it launched and have not really considered other options since around 2006.

Zoho is incredibly versatile. Much thought was put in to the way the platform functions. I've yet to face a situation where Zoho would not be able to do what I needed. That being said, because of its power, it can also be a bit intimidating technically. Simple needs are simple. More complex needs are ... more complex! Overall, it's a powerful, robust platform

      • ActiveBatch [Workload Automation] has increased our nightly processing stability exponentially. Our prior automation software was unreliable and often failed without explanation. Since moving to ActiveBatch [Workload Automation] we have had incredible stability, and any nightly processing errors that happen now are attributed to a cause other than automation. It's the most reliable software we currently use at our company.

      • We really have not tracked the savings in a dollar amount, but our overall ability to have a birds eye view of all of our courses and classes at any moment has been a great tool. And we save time when we need information about courses or classes because the reports are there and ready when needed.
