Honestly, I’ve seen this system scale from total start-up beginner businesses to larger businesses with more nuanced lists.

Pros

  • Automation campaigns are excellent in ActiveCampaign. It allows granular control over what happens when to whom and how. You can create very complex automated campaigns to nurture leads at the right time with the right content.
  • Ability to create custom pipelines is great as it allows us to cater to different sales processes that vary depending on customer type and/or different services, so we can track the right information in a flow that makes sense in specific situations.
  • Sending 1-to-1 emails in CRM that are tracked so we know when contacts open emails.
  • Chrome extension for Gmail is really useful to access contact data within emails in Gmail and being able to track emails sent in Gmail.

  • Automate demand generation programs across multiple marketing channels, both traditional and digital
  • Provide valuable reporting and tracking to measure program efficiency and efficacy
  • Arm small marketing teams with powerful, easy to use tools to act as modern marketers utilizing the best in current marketing automation technology
  • Training and helpful resources are abundant and the Pardot community is a growing source of support and hub for marketing ideas

Cons

  • Lists vs. tags can be somewhat confusing -- I feel it could be all tags
  • UX is a slow and sometimes confusing
  • Snippets are difficult to use
No photo available
  • Reporting layouts - can't customize columns, sorts etc.... Drawback when users are accustomed to flexibility of salesforce.com. It would be great if they would make all Pardot data available in Salesforce.com so that I can run all reports from one area.
  • Would be nice if a few landing page templates were provided (similar to email templates offered).
  • More advanced salesforce.com integration - ability to write to the account, opportunity or custom objects (not just lead and contact).
  • Advanced programming on the Pardot side. The ability to create formulas and advanced drip/marketing process flows.
  • Salesforce.com sync. Records only sync from Salesforce to Pardot when an email address is added. There is no way to easily set the sync to be based on criteria other than the existence of an email address - such as record type, or a custom flag.

Luckily for us Pardot was a perfect fit and is very easy to use. However, the most likely reason we'll renew is because of our initial investment, time and effort spent plus all of our data is now hosted within the Pardot platform, not to mention our business now relies on connectivity with webinars, website tracking and so on.I would strongly recommend to potential buyers to spend a lot of time understanding your potential vendor, because once you've signed up you'll struggle to move on if it doesn't work out.

The functions that I use are easy - emails and drip programs. Granted, I don't use the product to its fullest extent because we have internal processes in place in Salesforce that make more sense to us.

There have been a couple of service incidents over the past few months. I'm not sure if it has to do with Pardot integrating their infrastructure with ExactTarget. However, they responded well with proactive communication and a debrief as to what happened.

Back to my previous statement their support team is AWESOME. Depending on your service you may get better or implementations done for you during install but I was on a very quick install that was tied to another project so I did 90% on my own.

The trainers at the Pardot user conference (Elevate and Connections) were very knowledgeable and presented the material well. Again, the content was targeted to more of a new user audience, and was not really relevant for folks who had been using the product for 2+ years.

This is one area where I think Pardot could improve. They do a good job of providing online training on the basics. I think power users could benefit from more advanced training topics.

Alternatives Considered

I used to use MailChimp, and ActiveCampaign is just so much more flexible when it comes to things like segmenting your list. Now instead of sending everybody everything, I know that the emails I send are to people who are interested in that specific subject, which helps with engagement and ultimately sales.

We have only ever used Pardot. I was not in charge of purchasing Pardot but I believe our company also looked into Marketo.

  • We experienced faster lead conversion almost straight away after utilising Pardot tracking. It gave us insight we'd never had before.
  • More information about a lead's activities means Sales can have far more targeted conversations.
  • We've begun using Pardot for helpdesk and support communication on top of our marketing and sales. It's a game changer in this respect.
