ActiveCampaign

ActiveCampaign is perfect for teams that want a lightweight, easy to use email software which still has the ability to deeply integrate with your codebase/business logic (through tagging via their API and automations). It strikes the balance nicely between allowing developers and marketers to collaborate --- simply instruct the developers to tag users appropriately in the business logic / code base, and then the marketers can use AC's automations initiated by a tag to come up with whatever complex follow-up they desire (all without bugging the developers again).

SendinBlue

If you send emails or SMS messages to client lists, especially newsletters then I prefer SendinBlue to many other competitors as their pricing was simply better for the value. If you need RSS to Email where your Blog RSS Feed auto delivers to email subscribers then this service is not a fit as this feature is not supported. This service also doesn't have features to auto notify/send out an online newsletter to social media.

Pros

  • Automations (based on tagging a user from your codebase via their API, start sending that user an email sequence)
  • Campaign Builder (as good as other tools such as Mailchimp)
  • Pricing (pay per contact, not per email sent. AND email addresses can be added to multiple lists and only count as 1 contact, unlike Mailchimp which would consider that 2 contacts)

  • Layout options and editable layouts. Many newsletter options we tried didn't have too much capability for layout, which could be fine for e-commerce but not for publishing.
  • Clear reporting on the dashboard, and per newsletter sent out.
  • Pricing: the only option we found that charges for emails sent vs. subscriber base. As we do not send emails every day, just once a week, we felt unfairly priced at our send rate with many competitors.

Cons

  • It's reporting functionality is terrible. I can't emphasize this enough. There is not a path for ad hoc reports; only canned system reports and some ability to use advanced search and filters to "try" and work around this.
  • The form tool does not have the best styling capabilities.
  • Their list building / segmentation features are difficult to confidently maneuver when trying to establish unique paths for individual contacts based on certain triggers / behavioral actions.

  • Template updates: I would like to see them rotate or add a few template options for seasonal celebrations. For some of my users, they work off of templates and it would be nice to get a few new options from time to time. But this is not a big deal or deal breaker. They offer enough standard.
  • Video tutorials: not a huge thing, but for visual learners, a few video tutorials would be helpful when onboarding new users.

I am a web designer and systems admin. I have not found anything with this system that was hard to use. Other systems make it hard to do simple tasks and is very limiting. SendinBlue doesn't limit you.

Everything loads very quickly, it saves as you go along so you're unlikely to loose work if your computer fails. Reports are there immediately too so you're able to act quickly on customer engagement.

If you follow all the steps of the setup process they give you, any one can set this up in about 1 - 2 hours.

Alternatives Considered

We have selected ActiveCampaign because it has all the basic features in marketing automation we wanted. It is a cheap and effective Marketing Automation software when you are a small business. We simply wanted a tool powerful enough to help us increase the number of new leads for a very low cost.

SIB offers a simple interface that helps you create great emails that get into the right inbox, every time. If you want a flashy interface that is only that, seek another provider. If you want a serious and top-notch email marketing program, SIB delivers in a big way. I have come to trust this provider and applaud them for developing a solid, secure and sturdy solution that gets our CTA out to those who buy. Give it a try and I am confident you will thank yourself for making such a wise choice in the selection of your email marketing program

Return on Investment

  • It helped me to grow my list substantially in just 3 months.
  • It helped me to increase traffic on my website.
  • This application played a very important role in the success of our new product which we launched in the first quarter of this financial year. We got very good response on our promotional campaign.

  • Deliverability: SIB protects their sending IP and this shows with the rate of delivery. Junk senders are cautioned, this is not the solution for you.
  • Simplicity: Cut the time it takes to get professional email campaigns out to your audience. Less time = less labor expense.
  • All in one solution allows you to capture and maintain both SMTP and SMS under one program and this has made segmentation and campaigning less annoying and tedious.
