Scorecard without the Birt360 module is very limited in reporting and data displays. End users who are not computer savvy would have a difficult time using the advanced features

Dundas Dashboard

I think it is an excellent product especially if you want to have a tool that can fully meet the visual needs in terms of space and allocation of various objects in the dashboard. I often found it difficult to satisfy the customer where to place alerts, KPIs, and charts. Dundas succeeds in satisfying this need.

Pros

  • Easy data import
  • Multiple levels of user security
Lynn Kutz profile photo
  • Simple installation and configuration
  • Excellent arrangement of the elements almost "pixel perfect"
  • Detailed tools that provide maximum freedom of development, it's very close to the conception of a report but being a dashboard

Cons

  • Limited report writing ability unless you implant the iServer applications
  • End users have little or no control over data displays
Lynn Kutz profile photo
  • Also evaluating the competitors, I think the interface is not very attractive
  • Initially, it is a bit difficult to use and especially to understand the full functionality
  • It requires a little time of use before being a complete master of the instrument

This rating would be a 10 if the licensing structure were more accommodating.

Alternatives Considered

We looked at a few other competitor's products but based on value for features chose Actuate for its total cost of ownership.

Personally as a dashboard software I use Qlik Sense more because I consider it a very simple product to use, but this is a personal choice. However, for some things, it does not satisfy me fully. In my opinion, they are software that are alternated depending on the customer in front of you.

As a developer, the report code itself cannot be diffed and the merged from one version of a report to another. If you have 2 developers working on the same report, the last developer's changes have to be manually implemented into the first developer's version of the report. You cannot use a tool such as WinMerge to merge differences from one report design into another. Or rather, you could but there's no guaruntee that it would work. This is a real bottleneck. You have to implement changes in the design tool

As for my experience with Dundas Bi, unfortunately, I did not have the opportunity to personally test this type of functionality, as I have always been busy developing single and individual dashboards. The release and interaction part of the user has always been independently managed to follow the release date.

As for the connectivity through data sources I have not encountered any kind of problems. Also I never had to implement mupltiple connectivity solutions so most of the time the data sources were single on single server, nothing to report then. However, all standard connections are available and can be used easily

Return on Investment

  • Actuate can handle 50 to 60 sub reports inside a report very well.
  • Dynamically creating the datasource, chart, graph, reports are the main advantages. We can do any level of drilling, and can create a performance matrix dashboard efficiently.
