It depends on extensibility, set-up, access & style. Actuate performs fairly well, but has performance issues because it sits on top of eclipse, which sits on top of Java. Extensibility usually comes at that price. Set-up is fairly straightforward and it can be secured.

Well suited for large, global, multi -currency, multi -departmental deployments, where timezone, language and consolidations is a challenge.Departmental reporting can take various forms. The key is the seamless roll up and easy drilling into reporting details makes the process much more convenient and time saving

Breadth of Deployment

We have about 2300 licensed users, but probably less than 1/3 actually log in during a quarter time. Less than 10% would be considered proficient users.

Alternatives Considered

Actuate has been in the industry a while and the open source community make going with Actuate's BIRT a stable decision. Changing report engines can be expensive, so going with a company with a good reputation helps long-term

We tried Tableau Server about a year ago and although we liked the visual appeal of it, it was not as robust as we were hoping for. Additionally, we have several vendors that had expressed concerns with connecting their data to this type of service and so ultimately we ended up going with OAC.

Return on Investment

  • Actuate can handle 50 to 60 sub reports inside a report very well.
  • Dynamically creating the datasource, chart, graph, reports are the main advantages. We can do any level of drilling, and can create a performance matrix dashboard efficiently.
