What is the licensing structure? How long does it take to get licenses? Can an OEM reseller of Actuate get one license for the entire development organization?

SAP Analytics Cloud

If your organization is already using SAP products or some back end function related to SAP, then integration of the Cloud tool is easy and a great choice as it proves functional to an always changing market with multiple teams/groups touching the software at a given time. I would say if your organization does not currently utilize SAP at all or is not changing often, there is a steep learning curve to this tool and might not be picked up quickly by your organization unless you have a designated individual.

Pros

  • The software can be tied to Actuate Basic which is much like MS Visual Basic and can provide an almost custom application feel to some reports.
  • Actuate had field movement tools that allowed a user to line rows up and disperse them across a report based off the width. Comparative tools like Crystal did not provide these.
  • The Actuate Server also gave easy access to review who had been running a report or reports via its web interface.

  • Multiple SAP sources can be connected at one place.
  • Cloud infrastructure provides a seamless update, no downtime.
  • LIVE connections provides latest data, no lag time.
  • It is an excellent community for developers.

Cons

  • Anything that I would consider an area for improvement and have asked about from the company is a area where they are already doing development and refinement and when it is available it comes as a simple upgrade.

  • Features available in LIVE connection scenarios don't match with cloud-based connection. Some features are missing in LIVE Connection and the gap should close.
  • In stories, there should be scope to create more variables and better function library like Math, Date.
  • Scheduling is missing which is mostly demanded by end users.

Return on Investment

  • Actuate can handle 50 to 60 sub reports inside a report very well.
  • Dynamically creating the datasource, chart, graph, reports are the main advantages. We can do any level of drilling, and can create a performance matrix dashboard efficiently.

  • Cloud space availablity and licensing price needs to be well planned
