Acuity Scheduling

I honestly can't think of a situation where the system would be ill-suited to anyone. It's more appropriate for those who have more than one service to sell, I suppose. And it might not be as helpful when you're selling products (vs. services), so that would be one thing to improve.

Booker

I think Booker is well suited for a business needing the whole package, such as booking and a POS system. I believe it is less suitable for hair salons because reports are not visual and the system is not simple and to the point. Everything is an add-on for an extra cost, like custom emails to clients. Schedulicity is worth looking at

Pros

Acuity Scheduling

  • Acuity's UI flows well for my audience and it is easy to book. I LOVE that it loads very quickly, that is KEY to a good scheduler.
  • It's so easy to set up, and I can change my availability day to day without affecting the overall master hours I've set.
  • I love the feature for blocking out some times so that people book in chunks, one after the other, not scattered throughout the day.
  • The form feature that allows me to screen my audience before they book is so useful because it weeds out the ones who are not a fit for me.
  • The feature for blocking out times to appear busier is very useful as well, it does look like I have very limited ability!

Booker

  • Booker does very well as a point of sale program. From front desk check out to back end report generation, Booker gives us an accurate daily picture of business activity.
  • Booker is very good at tracking gift certificate activity. We have a large number of gift certificates and are able to find, edit and void with ease. We are also able to look at the history for each individual certificate or series which helps in troubleshooting.
  • I do not work with scheduling myself but staffers have found Booker to be a valuable tool for managing rooms and therapists.

Cons

Acuity Scheduling

  • I guess the design of the app could be prettier (I don't really care about design if the app functions properly.
  • I'm not going to say it needs to be more affordable - they offer a free version if anyone's upset about that. These people deserve a chance to earn your money and pay their bills too.

Booker

  • Booker has had some system failures recently that have caused a hard time for us.
  • Sometimes Booker updates reset certain features which cause us to have to reset everything.
  • The Booker app does not have the same features as the full site which sometimes does not make it easy for us.

Acuity Scheduling has been very reliable. If you don't believe me, check out their status page here. They do a pretty decent job maintaining their app. To be fair, it's a pretty simple tool so they shouldn't run into too many hiccups given it doesn't feature near as many options as other applications on the market run.

Because I'm so familiar with it. I'll definitely reconsider.

Usability

Usability is great for working primarily on the scheduling backend instead of client self-scheduling. It's taken a bit of a hit in my opinion with the UI redesign, which increased the size of UI elements, reduced workable space, and removed some design elements that kept you on track. The system of updating email reminder templates is a bit clunky too, especially if you need to make changes to multiple templates at the same time. There's no way to do that, instead it's a matter of copy/pasting over and over.

I think Booker is very simple for people who are trying to run a gym of about 200 or less clients with minimal apparel/product.

Support is great. I've reached out a few times since our use is a bit different. Support has always been prompt and responsive and led me to a solution, including some workarounds that aren't immediately obvious, such as how to disable a client's ability to reschedule from the cancel appointment link (which you can't do directly. Support guided me to a workaround).

There is usually a long wait when calling customer service but I now use the messaging option and my questions are answered very quickly. Booker has helped me with situations I thought were out of their range. If it wasn't for Booker support I would be very lost and confused.

Alternatives Considered

Acuity Scheduling

I do not like the ScheduleOnce interface. It's more confusing and time-consuming to set up. I like Acuity because it's easy to use, fast to set up and sync your availability, the Google calendar integration is easy, the mobile app works great, and it was easy to set up the text message and email reminders.

Booker

When we tried Micros, though it has robust hardware and software, It is not meant for salons. Square again the same thing, it is meant for small non salon and non service oriented businesses. Booker is by far the best of all salon softwares we have used.

Return on Investment

Acuity Scheduling

  • Being able to offer a scheduling option to clients utilizing our digital marketing services has been absolutely invaluable
  • Our office saves dozens of man-hours every week, compared to if we had to have completely separate accounts for each of our clients.
  • The overall pricetag on the software is extremely affordable, even for advanced features like HIPAA-compliant security.

Booker

  • Notifications are a great way that communicates to the customer their appointment confirmation, and appointment reminders.
  • Increased employee / staff communication, they can now log in and see their schedules.
  • Entering credit card at time of appointment reservation is helpful to us since we have a cancellation policy and keeps the client accountable if they are a no show or cancel last minute.
