It is well suited for mid-size companies to have a budgeting, forecasting, and reporting platform. The system needs data and someone to maintain it so it would not be well suited for a small company or one without a dedicated finance team.

In the service series, there is a weakness in applying revenue recognition concepts which are a strong point of the project series. It is difficult to get a period sensitive WIP that could be recreated at any time for a point in time (fiscal period).

  • Web-based system which eliminates the need to purchase new software. System is accessible anywhere as long as there is internet access.
  • Its features provide for good planning, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • The ability to create customized reports is a very nice touch - we are able to share this across our organization.

  • AP, AR and GL processing is straight forward and quite efficient. Period posting is a great control of operations.
  • Project setup is quite easy for users, as is review and analysis. We manage by budget for each project and have never had an issue or need for additional information
  • Time and Expense capturing by employees is painless and efficient. This is highly important to a project centric organization. It meets our needs and users are content.

Cons

  • On the Infographics page, I would love to see a thumbnail of the infographic before clicking on it. In general, I love that when you hover over a box, you get a more detailed description, but I would also love the ability to hover and then click to see a thumbnail before opening the full page.
  • Similarly, I think the Videos page should have the length of each video somewhere on the squares. This would help people judge how much time they would need to watch each one all the way through, and be able to make an informed decision about how many they could watch in between meetings.
  • There is no free text search bar.

  • Better documentation of controls and reporting of the audit trail (think SOX).
  • Better remote office, work from home capabilities (such as cloud bases SAAS) would help resolve security and speed/performance constraints.

We just recently renewed our contract and I wouldn't hesitate to renew again. First, Adaptive as a company has a great customer-first attitude and they're great to work with. Their customer service team is fantastic. Second, they are constantly trying to improve the product and make it better, but not losing sight of what we really need. Also, the longer you use the product the more it is filled with priceless data all in one spot with instant access to report on and dig into.

I think that it is very intuitive and once you get to know the system it is very user-friendly.The reporting module is especially impressive with the drag and drop reporting - our business really loves this.The system looks modern and "smart" and I never hesitate to show it off to stakeholders across the business.Some of the "back end" formula set up can sometimes involve lots of heavy lifting as a power user.

We have had only one unplanned outage for 2 hours in the last 30 months. We shut down for 30 min to 1 hour once a month, but that is for Microsoft OS updates to the servers. Being a 24/7 world wide operation, the reliability is really important. We do get an 8 hour window on the weekend that we can be down for a short period to install Microsoft Dynamics SL updates, but we do not have many of those. On our last version upgrade, we shut the users out at 9:30 am and were fully operational in less than 6 hours. The upgrade was New SQL server, New SL server and 2 new Citrix servers.

In our experience the Adaptive Suite is quick and easy to deploy. Most implementations are facilitated in just a few weeks but may range depending on organisation complexity from say 2 to 12 weeks with only the very largest and most complex taking a little longer. When key stakeholders are properly engaged and the opportunities for skills transfer are exercised, we find that implementations proceed well and are delivered on time and to project budget

Just to let it take its course. The implementation for me once I became a part of my former organization was pretty seamless. Just get to know the basics and call the support team to ask questions if you need help on an issue, should they arise. They are ready, willing, and able to help!

Breadth of Deployment

It is used throughout the company in different divisions and at our corporate level. When used in a division recently the personnel from different departments directly inputted data and monitored their budget against actual. It is very user friendly and flexible.

Alternatives Considered

My decision came down to Adaptive vs Host Analytics. Host made the claim that because their sheets were just like excel, you wouldn't need to learn any new commands. Rather, I thought that was a downside. I didn't want another glorified version of excel, I was looking for something different, something new. Adaptive had that. They were also far more willing to work with a nonprofit and become a partner, rather than just a vendor.

Of the comparable mid-range ERP systems, Dynamics SL competes at the lower end based on price, but also above the high-end based on flexibility, data, and reporting. Being able to stay with the same core accounting from a $100 million dollar company to a $3 billion dollar company shows the range of capabilities.

Return on Investment

  • We've completely eliminated Excel in the budget cycle. I no longer have to consolidate 90 spreadsheets to get the organizational budget. Last minute changes are saved in Adaptive. With the audit feature, I can know who made what change and whether or not it was approved at the top level.
  • KPI dashboards have lowered expenses as users have real-time information on their expense ratio for major events. We've been able to lower costs, increase gross revenue and net revenue all at the same time.
