Adaptive Insights

It is very helpful for budgeting and reporting. I love how easy it is to automate reports and presentations. It can be more difficult to plan specific activities. It feels more high-level than activity-level. It shows totals rather than individual transactions (either past or future transactions).

If you are handling a large client list, and are selling services, it is dead easy. If you are managing/selling a physical inventory, it seems like it has great options to do that quite well (disclaimer, I do not use those functions, but I have paid attention as that functionality was built into the software). If you want to link your bank account to a bookkeeping platform, this is not the software for you (at least so far).

  • It would be great to have a "cheat sheet" for implementation purposes. We had a very strong resource since we used Adaptive's implementation team, but it would have been nice to better understand some of the implementation details upfront.

  • Better custom reporting setup, current interface (AccountEdge Pro-2015) is rather dated.
  • I don't think the interface use for the custom reporting has been updated even in the 2018 version
  • Still has a bit of "wonky" interface when exporting Excel reports ( wants to over-right open files)

Along with that one can set up recurring transactions for things that repeat daily through annually and anything in between. You can set a preference for automatic posting or a user specific reminder to post the action

Although having a set of spreadsheet and workbooks helps to define the logic and processes, preparing a requirements document is also an important element in a successful implementation. In addition, dedicating a knowledgeable user as part of the "Scrum" development allows focus and permits the implementation to proceed without time loss and promotes knowledge transfer. Finally, having an onsite developer speeds the process and can reduce the overall cost as well.

Breadth of Deployment

It is used throughout the company in different divisions and at our corporate level. When used in a division recently the personnel from different departments directly inputted data and monitored their budget against actual. It is very user friendly and flexible.

Alternatives Considered

Adaptive is much more flexible and powerful for our needs. It provides a wealth of reporting tools and capabilities that Cognos simply didn't or couldn't provide. The ability to have a team of one completely implement and manage the solution for a company is not unreasonable (as I'm currently doing this). Based on my previous experience, that would probably not be the case with other solutions.

Return on Investment

  • Our use of Adaptive could be expanded to bring greater ROI to Customer Service, Sales (especially with a better integration with Salesforce) and even Engineering but our own resources haven't allowed for this. I think that running your pipeline through Adaptive to model the true financial impact of prospective deals would be a great help in both your cash planning and in mapping your potential incentives to the Sales team.
  • Adaptive has allowed us to produce our Board packages with no additional outside resources. We anticipate this being even more streamlined once we can integrate Adaptive Connect to update our presentation automatically.
  • By providing an accurate and forward looking cash flow report, we can better manage our investments to maximize our return without the risk of short-term cash shortages.
