Great for competitive reporting for SEM clients. I use it for all my monthly performance reports to pull out specific insights on how we compare to competitors on top keywords and categories and where we have room to improve. AdGooroo allows me to format really specific and impactful recommendations that impress the client.

Bing Ads

Bing Ads is especially appropriate for driving affordable traffic. Google AdWords can be very expensive for certain industries and categories. I would recommend Bing Ads for anyone who wants to expand the reach of their AdWords campaign in a cost-effective manner. I've also noticed that campaigns geared towards older populations (healthcare, for example) often perform especially well on Bing Ads.

Pros

  • Track and monitor spend and performance against competitors.
  • Identify missed keyword opportunities.
  • Informs our campaign and keyword budgeting/bidding on a daily basis.

  • Bing tends to have a higher conversion rate than Google, mainly because of the nature of the users on Bing tend to be a bit older
  • Bing's universal event tracking, essentially a code that is placed on every page of your site, now allows you to utilise re-marketing lists to its fullest, as well as tracking and displaying your conversion points in the engine

Cons

  • I wish their graphs/infographics were more ready to use so I could quickly drop into presentations instead of having to format or re-do them myself.
  • Has a bit of a high learning curve.
  • There is a limit on the number of keywords you can upload. For large clients there shouldn't be a cap. I want to be able to upload all of my client's keywords.

  • Newer features. Bing doesn't seem to come out with new features as soon as Google Adwords. They are always one step behind.
  • Better support. The Google Adwords team is always contacting us to help improve our campaigns. I never hear from Bing Ads support.
  • Bigger audience. While not specifically the fault of Bing Ads, Bing needs to increase market share. That is the only way they will compete with Google.

It does drive traffic and conversions, even though the scale is small.

Usability itself is all right, I just wish it looked better.

Alternatives Considered

AdGooroo is preferable for search only clients. When it comes to mixed media campaigns, such as display and social, I definitely prefer to use ComScore. The platform is just more user friendly overall.

Bing ads is less user friendly than Bing and usually rolls out updates much later than Google does. It always seems like Bing is constantly trying to catch up to Google as opposed to bringing new opportunities to the table.

Return on Investment

  • Insightful data that helps improve client trust
  • Indentifying opportunities for keyword expansions

  • I've seen both positive and negative impacts for ROI
