AdMob

It is very quick to integrate with the application. You will start earning within a few days. It has a well-written API. You can go for it if you want a quick implementation but if you want to highly customize your ads then Admob is not a good [fit]. It has also less CPC in comparison to its competitors.

Adobe Analytics

Adobe Analytics is great for customizing once you get used to the bogged down UI and the unhelpful location of items. we've used it to mimic paywall systems of costly companies. We have base reports set up to manage our paywalls set up in Adobe and they work great. But getting at the minute data is where the issue comes in and the add-ons are needed.

Pros

  • It has a good fill rate, for our applications we got around 99.9% to 100%.
  • Better targetted ads, so it increases CTR.
sanjeev pandey profile photo
  • Provides an interface that is easy to navigate and explain to general users
  • Offers data extraction and automation through Data Warehouse
  • Provides a baseline-architecture with the ability to customize when needed
  • Ability to integrate with Adobe Target and other tools
  • The ability to segment and run breakdowns/correlations/subrelations provides access to a great deal with granularity in reporting

Cons

  • Admob provides fewer CPCs compares to its competitors in the market.
  • Earning report needs to have a dashboard so that the user can easily monitor their earnings. There needs to be dashboard which shows aggregated reports as well as [reports] on application level.

  • Learning how to use SiteCatalyst is quite difficult.
  • Initial implementation of software is challenging.
  • Support is less than helpful in most cases.

It gives good insight as to key indicators as to what customers are looking at. I'm still unfamiliar with all of it's capabilities so my feelings toward it are still developing; however I can see how well it captures data that help drive critical decisions. Knowledge is power and when you know the behavior of your users, then it gives you greater power over how you present your content on your web site. It also drives your capability of catering your web site to your customers and shortens the gap between your customers and you so that you know what they are looking for

Not as intuitive as with Google Analytics. There are a lots of gotchas. Tool is best suited for analysts, not casual users. If you know what you're doing, it can be extremely powerful. The usability is getting better, for example, with their drag and drop calculated metrics builder and segment builder, but there is a steep learning curve overall to really know what you're getting with your reports.

Adobe SiteCatalyst has a good up-time track record, but there are cases in which the interface reports a "Network Acceleration" issue, which can be frustrating. There are also times when data can be "latent" for customers, but most of these cases are due to spikes in traffic or temporary server issues.

For the most part, Adobe SiteCatalyst reports work ok, but there are cases in which reports take a long time to return. These cases are usually when too much data has been stored in Conversion Variables (eVars).

I have had many clients that are not thrilled with some aspects of the support. I think the actual day-to-day technical support (ClientCare) is great, but I have heard (and experienced) complaints about the the longer-term services (initial implementation, account management).

Myself and others have found the in-person training ok, but not outstanding. Trainers are good at explaining how to use the product features, but sometimes lack "real-world" experience on how to use the product as they are people who have often not previously been web analysts. There is also a shortcoming in company-provided training on advanced uses of the product. The implementation training is very good.

The online training for Adobe SiteCatalyst consists of short product videos. These are ok, but only go so far. For a while Adobe charged a fee for this, but recently made these available for free. There are many great blog posts that help users learn how to apply the product as well.

I have found that initial SiteCatalyst implementations are too basic to be useful. Adobe professional services is usually tasked with the initial implementation using their "Fusion" methodology. This is good for vertical-based basics, but I find that many clients fail to go beyond this. This has the negative effect of selling SiteCatalyst short within the organization, since first impressions can be long-lasting.

Alternatives Considered

We have used a few other ad networks, but they are not suited to our requirements. Admob has the best fill rate for Indian apps, that others lack. For our few apps that target USA and European customers, we use Mobclix. Admob has also fewer configurable thresholds for payments. For payment and taxation, they provide options which are as per the state laws.

Adobe is fairly robust and similar to Google Analytics however as a paid service it is not exceptionally better. It provides much the same data that Google Analytics does and in some areas is not as strong. Page-level reports are more difficult in Adobe. Selecting a group of pages for a simple report that trends growth to a handful of similar pages, for instance, is more difficult in Adobe for our organization. Tracking revenue is also a challenge but this is a site-specific issue and occurs with Google Anlaytics as well. That being said, as a paid platform, Adobe should be able to work around this issue. Data Warehouse and report builder functions are great, but require another plug in, GA allows easier download of data in this regard.

Return on Investment

  • We got a return on our investment very quickly, it's very easy to integrate with less development effort.
  • It needs less maintenance work.
sanjeev pandey profile photo
  • It has offered a valuable tracking tool that all businesses can use as a similar reporting platform. This allows for insights into growth and targeting of specific channels in need of improvement.
  • It has reported on strong growth in SEO and given the business a solid understanding of how important this is to the organization and growth.
