AdMob

As for technology and implementation... I think they are superb. But in today's world you can't go around doing whatever you want to stroke your own ego. You have to care for your clients & communicate with them. AdMob loses all respect there. I understand banning those illegal click farm guys in Asia/Africa, but banning a developer in Europe who has nothing to do with click farms, and then refraining to verify their own data collection is absolutely nauseating.

Yahoo Gemini

Yahoo Gemini is the perfect advertising engine for both small businesses and larger businesses looking to start digitally advertising and marketing online to their specific target audiences. It is an easy-to-use platform and the dashboard is fairly simple to get used to, which makes managing your accounts and campaigns that much easier.

Pros

AdMob

  • Well it works really well.
  • No complaints about their technical backing.
  • They do take the pain so your implementation is fairly easy.

Yahoo Gemini

  • Low Spend: Our Search and Display spend has all Adwords. As many digital marketers know, Adwords is effective, yet expensive. I did some research and found out that Gemini and Yahoo Network is terribly underrated. The upside? We have been able to get moderate results using 5% of our Adwords spend. That's a drop in the bucket. The best part is that I have not seen a need to increase the spend because bids are ridiculously low.
  • Higher Conversion Rates: I believe Gemini’s users are very intent driven hence a smaller population is able to drive high conversion rates.
  • Platform: it is so streamlined and easier to use compared to Adwords. Yes, it lacks a lot of bells and whistles but with 5% spend, I don't really need it. Also, creatives are easier to put together. There are basic requirements like text length and minimum image dimensions but you can edit in the platform. Adwords on the other hand has a very rigid dimension requirement. It discourages using your own creatives. I find myself crossing my fingers and hoping the ads look okay.

Cons

AdMob

  • Theyre customer service is by far the worst ever.
  • They have to stop banning user accounts for no reason. They have been wrong on so many counts, it just will make you wonder which primary school student is giving them info to make such horrendous decisions.
  • Their high handedness is handling cases, they keep giving copy paste client servicing replies, won't own up to it being their fault, and leave you in a lurch absolutely unbothered. This is a black spot on Google.
  • They keep sending you emails with warnings about stuff you haven't even dreamed of doing. Saying absolutely shady stuff like "asking your family to click on ads for you is an invalid activity" What will I earn out of that, 25cents after a 1000clicks? Do you think my 80yr old granny has the energy to keep clicking something for 1000times?
  • They never have the courage to accept they've made a mistake and they may have collected some invalid data without considering all of the circumstances. And if you try to draw their attention to that, they give you a deaf ear. It is really sad, for such an amazing product. The attitude sucks big time.

Yahoo Gemini

  • No traffic -- despite a high ROI, the lack of overall spend led to us eventually remove support for the channel from our services.
  • Nothing to differentiate it from other paid platforms -- Gemini didn't particularly offer anything new or novel that made it worth using over Bing and Google.

Alternatives Considered

AdMob

Better rates
Reply very often.
No fake copy paste customer service.
No high handedness in handling cases, they always listen.. And then make decisions, they never brand you a self clicker and ban your account when you are innocent

Yahoo Gemini

Yahoo Gemini is very similar to how the Bing Ads platform operates and functions, but I feel like the Yahoo Gemini platform is much more aesthetically pleasing and a little bit easier to manage. The colors and visual appearance of the dashboard seems to be more inviting than that of Bing Ads.

Return on Investment

AdMob

  • Before I got into it my other friends told me there are way better Ad providers. But being a Google fan I still signed up.
  • Now I remember writing to AdMob, requesting them to give me earning rates... But they never replied. So zero return on investment. They just keep you guessing.

Yahoo Gemini

  • High ROI for limited spend.
  • Another channel to compliment Bing and Google paid efforts.
