Adobe Acrobat DC

Adobe Acrobat is very reliable when transferring documentation since it allows to perform vitally important work with documents in a faster way, with fewer errors, and with greater security and efficiency. Offering the ability to work with important documents anywhere, Acrobat DC with Document Cloud services provides perfection in desktops, the Internet and mobile devices, including touch devices.

For smaller companies looking to go paperless it is perfect. It's affordable, easy to use, and has a really good workflow for converting everything. I think it also works well for companies who are looking to convert just their mail to email attachments. This was actually where we started and it worked flawlessly. I think bigger companies would need something more integrated or will already have the same features built into a larger system.

Pros

  • Combine pdfs. It is helpful in combining multiple pdfs together for ease into one document.
  • Split pdfs. On the opposite side, it is helpful to split one pdf into multiple documents for easier distribution to individuals associated with each section of a larger pdf.
  • Comment on pdfs. It is helpful in making comments on pdf documents that can then be saved for personal reference or sharing with others.

  • The UI is very similar to the Microsoft Office "Ribbon", so our users have learned it quite quickly.
  • Very good OCR and edit capabilities.
  • While not exactly small in size, it's far smaller and lighter on system resources than Adobe.

Cons

  • When clicking "edit" in a PDF document it would be nice if DC would open automatically if you already have a license to use it.
  • It would be nice to have a cleaner interface to add images.
  • Working with text is a bit awkward and would be more efficient to have the window for font and size more accessible.

Issues get resolved eventually, but it requires a lot of customer follow up to make sure they are being worked on.

Alternatives Considered

I think Acrobat DC really makes its case against Revu because of the ability to edit text much easier and add signing areas where in Bluebeam you need to be very exact and do not have the ability to make changes of document that may not lend itself for editing

Same functionality for less cost. Not as pretty as Adobe, but gets the job done all the same.

Return on Investment

  • Adobe is used by the entire company each and every day, and the investment was very little. This has been a very positive impact.

  • Increases user readability
  • Document sharing across organisation through social media buttons provided by the software.
