Adobe Acrobat DC

The program is well suited on a personal computer that has enough processing power to handle the program. It is suited for people that frequently mark up pdfs or need to alter page arrangement in such documents. For the casual user who may only need to split a pdf now and then, there are free programs online that can do this with a few more steps.

Works fine for accounting but we've found workflow capabilities are limited for those who aren't using our accounting system. License seats need to be concurrent instead of user specific.

Pros

  • Combine pdfs. It is helpful in combining multiple pdfs together for ease into one document.
  • Split pdfs. On the opposite side, it is helpful to split one pdf into multiple documents for easier distribution to individuals associated with each section of a larger pdf.
  • Comment on pdfs. It is helpful in making comments on pdf documents that can then be saved for personal reference or sharing with others.

  • Helps keep track of multiple vendors' receipts and invoices.
  • The integration with GP accounting is particularly helpful and it's why we chose the system.
  • Users find the system easy to understand.

Cons

  • Program size. By far, the main drawback is that my computer does not have enough processing capability to handle. It is VERY slow to install and often slow to open too.
  • Functionality. There are some types of commenting that the program does not handle as well (e.g., hand written comments that you want to try to put in with your mouse).
  • Licenses. You only get two licenses with each subscription, which can make it expensive to implement in a large scale format.

  • It would be nice if we could automatically email invoices from KwikTag to responsible parties for approval.
  • Need to provide a web interface that doesn't use up a license seat so other members than KwikTag users can view documents that go with what's been charged to their budget.

Usability

Adobe Acrobat DC8.0
Based on 1 answer
Overall, Adobe Acrobat DC provides an easy user interface. The program can take some time to get used to, just like most programming you use, but once the software is understood it is very easy for users to use. Compared to many programs this is very easy for people to use.

Performance

Adobe Acrobat DC8.0
Based on 1 answer
Overall, Adobe Acrobat DC performs at an acceptable rate. The software takes some time to load, but nothing that is unreasonable when launching a document. The program responds at a reasonable speed and performs well when operating tasks. It takes time for it to evaluate a document when you request to edit the document, but that is understandable considering it is identifying words and such in the document.

Alternatives Considered

Adobe Acrobat DC provides much greater functionality and features than these other programs. Splitpdf and Combinepdf are only free sources that split or combine pdfs, but they are not necessarily secure, and they only do one function. They also require internet to operate. Adobe Acrobat Reader is what everyone uses, and allows viewing of pdfs, but it does not enable splitting, merging, or marking up pdfs.

We use Laserfiche for our legal and membership services departments. Laserfiche is a full blown workflow and document management system that runs on our own SQL server. Therefore we have much more control of how it's set up and we can customize it more easily.

Return on Investment

  • Overall, Adobe Acrobat has a positive impact on our ROI, or we wouldn't have been using it for the past several years. The PDF software space is crowded but Adobe has the best product out there.
  • We started with Nitro, which was undoubtedly less expensive on the front end but necessitated more staff training and wasn't as robust and functional as Adobe Acrobat. Ultimately, Adobe has paid off since it's almost completely intuitive and takes care of practically every underwriting and marketing document-related task we've used it for.
  • Adding additional users is fast and easy. Adobe has an easy portal for managing our ongoing software subscription.
  • Of all the software we use, the Adobe product has needed the least amount of IT support. In fact, we haven't needed ANY IT support since we started using it. Cost- and time-saving at it's best.

  • KwikTag has taken a large burden off our AP staff.
  • Documents are readily available for retrieval without having to scan through directories full of files or boxes of paper.
  • Would like to see the ability for others to at least search and view documents.
