Adobe Acrobat DC

As a document reader and file export software it hits the marks that are necessary to make the software useful in a business environment. It is also helpful to get an entire team on a license of adobe without the need to break the bank on full license structures for everyone that might not use the entirety of the paid version of the software. Less useful are the document manipulation and search functions available to the free DC version of the software package. Full Adobe likely has all the bells and whistles, but it would be nice to have some of the functionality in the freeware software.

PandaDoc

PandaDoc is very well suited for sales teams who need to send out professional quotes quickly, and get them signed off quickly. When sales teams travel to events, being able to generate a quote and get sign-off whilst chatting to a prospective client makes all the difference to the deal, since no paper is involved.

Pros

Adobe Acrobat DC

  • Adobe Acrobat works particularly well with opening documents quickly and not having compatibility issues with various sources of documents.
  • Also, if you do not need some of the more advanced features that the more expensive professional version provides, there are free or less expensive versions that better suit your needs. that flexibility is welcome
  • The UI of zooming into documents that might have smaller font or unclear information is very helpful, and generally, anyone can sit down and figure out how to work the program with very little training. It's very intuitive.

PandaDoc

  • Great looking proposals. PandaDoc does an exceptional job converting existing templates into HTML format so the PD version looks and feels identical.
  • The automations and integrations are awesome. Having automated reminders sent to clients helps keep things moving without taking time away from the sales team and the numerous integrations available through Zapier make it easy to do everything from sync data to Salesforce or send notifications into Slack.
  • The support from PandaDoc is impressive. Same-day response, ongoing support, and a knowledgeable support team.

Cons

Adobe Acrobat DC

  • Adobe Acrobat DC has a learning curve when it comes to working with the software. The program takes some getting used to but overall is not bad.
  • One thing that can get very frustrating is if you are editing a document, you have to click a separate function to "add text" then back to the edit to continue making additional edits. This can get very tedious to switch back and forth constantly.
  • There seem to be unnecessary extra movements that need to be made when editing something, if you want to insert an image it is another function, add text its another function. This can just be time consuming and irritating.

PandaDoc

  • I don't like finding documents in PandaDoc. It may be more a problem of user error, but we have gotten a ton of nested folders in our PandaDoc, which makes it hard to find documents. Also, the search bar doesn't work as well as I'd hope it would.
  • Formatting is still fairly clunky. Making/removing bulleted lists, changing font size/type, and adding fields take some getting used to. I also wish you could link "Fields" to text so they would move with the text, but you have to reposition the fields every time you change the text.
  • I really like the experience of using templates, but building new documents is clunky still. Some of the features around formatting and building new documents are pretty buried in the panels on the top and right. For example, adding any kind of image to a document is a pain.
  • I haven't played around with it enough, but I wish there were more integrations with an invoicing system. I know they just added "Payments", but we use Quickbooks for invoicing, and I haven't figured out how to set this up yet.

Every time I think of something I need to accomplish, whether it be creating a form that has fillable boxes, or converting one type of file to another, Adobe Acrobat can perform that function, and with a minimum of research necessary on deciphering how to accomplish the task. Just having features but being too hard to use can sink a program, and luckily this program is easy but capable.

Overall, Adobe Acrobat DC performs at an acceptable rate. The software takes some time to load, but nothing that is unreasonable when launching a document. The program responds at a reasonable speed and performs well when operating tasks. It takes time for it to evaluate a document when you request to edit the document, but that is understandable considering it is identifying words and such in the document.

I have never needed the assistance of Adobe support because of the ease of use. I would not be able to accurately rate the customer support at this time. Because of the increased billing requirements now taking place with subscription based services, I could only hope they would have tier-1 support for all users.

They are quick at fixing any problems that we have had which mainly came about when we were setting up the system ready to use. They also ran through some training with the team at no additional charge and we now have a team member responsible for passing that knowledge on.

Alternatives Considered

Adobe Acrobat DC

We tried Flip PDF Pro for Mac, but the software didn't have the accessibility features we need. Plus, most of our web agents across campus are working on PCs, so it didn't make sense to use software they wouldn't have access to use. Adobe Acrobat DC was a great universal solution that fit our needs

Quote Roller was fine, as were the platforms we used before it, but they were half the price (or less) of PandaDoc and included full export capabilities. The one area where PandaDoc stood out was that they built a "pick one of many options" feature for the pricing table allowing clients to select between options where one selection is mandatory.

Return on Investment

Adobe Acrobat DC

  • This product is a lifesaver in the business world. Support was a little spotty when the program was first implemented but once setup was complete it has been a breeze to use.
  • Adobe Acrobat it's a perfect tool for reading and editing PDFs. I've done much more faster reports based on the summaries of the pdfs by searching the right words, doing partial screenshots, etc. I've created, filled, signed and sent forms easily
  • To save time, create professional looking documents, the ability to protect documents for clients. I have realized that this program has eliminated the headache of switching back and forth between Word documents and new PDFs by having the ability to edit and enhance all in one program
