Adobe Acrobat DC

As a document reader and file export software it hits the marks that are necessary to make the software useful in a business environment. It is also helpful to get an entire team on a license of adobe without the need to break the bank on full license structures for everyone that might not use the entirety of the paid version of the software. Less useful are the document manipulation and search functions available to the free DC version of the software package. Full Adobe likely has all the bells and whistles, but it would be nice to have some of the functionality in the freeware software.

It's a wonderful asset to have when you lose your original Word doc, etc. so you can still edit a document (and not have to start from ground zero). That feature alone is why I bought this product and why I will continue to recommend.

Pros

Adobe Acrobat DC

  • Adobe Acrobat works particularly well with opening documents quickly and not having compatibility issues with various sources of documents.
  • Also, if you do not need some of the more advanced features that the more expensive professional version provides, there are free or less expensive versions that better suit your needs. that flexibility is welcome
  • The UI of zooming into documents that might have smaller font or unclear information is very helpful, and generally, anyone can sit down and figure out how to work the program with very little training. It's very intuitive.

PDFelement

  • PDFelement provides the same powerful features as Adobe Acrobat, but the interface is easy to learn and use. The product is extremely intuitive, which saves our clients from becoming frustrated as they learn the product.
  • PDFelement Pro's ability to create fillable forms with the click of one button is one of our clients favorite features. I was impressed at how accurately PDFelement performed this task and the ease with which these fields can be edited, if needed.
  • Security is more important than ever these days and PDFelement provides the encryption and permissions to protect documents quickly and easily. I especially like the batch encrypt feature, this makes it easy to protect multiple files with the same password.
  • PDFelement makes it easy to extract the data from form fields. This is a huge plus for our clients.

Cons

Adobe Acrobat DC

  • Cost - it is powerful but expensive. I managed to get approval but someone in our organization just told me the other day she was going to hold off because it was so expensive.
  • Some of the time I wish the page editing features were a little more robust

PDFelement

  • I wish there was a lighter program for just reviewing a document and then to transition seamlessly to an editing mode. It takes a few seconds longer to load than Preview on my Mac, and based on that frustration, I use Preview to view documents.
  • A lower price for upgrades.

Overall, Adobe Acrobat DC provides an easy user interface. The program can take some time to get used to, just like most programming you use, but once the software is understood it is very easy for users to use. Compared to many programs this is very easy for people to use.

One of the best features of Adobe Acrobat is its speed and stability. When dealing with massive multi-page files, having to reload a crashed program over and over again would slow down progress unnecessarily. And expanding on that, having the table of contents generated allows me to skip to different pages with ease, a necessary feature with exceptionally long files. word searches are even more helpful with text recognition.

There is a lot of learning. Although some of the functions you can probably pick up relatively quickly, some of them, including compressing the size or using a different language, remains a myth to me.

I gave it a 10, but I've never contacted support in my many years of using it. I've never run into a problem where contacting support was required. I've dealt with Adobe support in general and have had a great experience. It was really easy to get my issue resolved. I don't know if the support would be different, but overall it was a good experience.

Alternatives Considered

Adobe Acrobat DC

Adobe Acrobat, in my opinion, is the gold standard - the pioneer and household name for all things PDF.However, in the last several years competitors have emerged who offer very similar functionality, solving the same problems as Adobe. Sometimes Adobe performs better, and in some areas the competitors do. For me personally, price is very important in deciding what application to go with for PDF-related need. Two other applications that I've used in past organizations, or purchased myself when prices were lower than Adobe, are PDFfiller and DocuSign. Again, some things are done best by Adobe, but a couple things the competition do BEST are:1. PDFfiller: I like this application the BEST for mobile use / accessibility. Has awesome integration with the G-Suite2. DocuSign: I like to use this, over Adobe, for getting legally-binding contracts executed.

I didn't try or buy other programs, but did a good bit of research on them. I went with PDFelement because of the lower pricing, and because of the rich features I learned it had.I also appreciated the great customer service I received from reps in the community forums, which showed me they have an aim in keeping their customers happy - which is always good to have when using fairly complex technical apps.

Return on Investment

Adobe Acrobat DC

  • Adobe Acrobat DC has greatly reduced our number of new accessibility issues.
  • Adobe Acrobat DC is easy enough for most users that request for ADA compliant PDFs no longer come through the web office, so our workflow is much more streamlined.
  • Adobe Acrobat DC has allowed us to generate fillable forms more easily, resulting in less time trying to interpret poor penmanship.

  • For me, it's been very important to me that my business as a pet sitter and dog walker not leave a negative footprint on the environment. To that end, it's been very important that i'm able to do as much paperwork as possible without using paper. PDFelement is wonderful at helping me meet those goals.
