Adobe Analytics

I've found multiple scenarios where Adobe Analytics (AA) is well suited. For example, the integration of AA with Optimizely. Instead of limiting our A/B test evaluation with the pre-set Optimizely metrics, I can use a checkbox within Optimizely Options to set an eVar that will integrate almost seamlessly. Within a few hours, I can collect data such as Orders (Participation), Profit (Participation) and Time Spent on Page (examples), which provides a more in-depth analysis of how successful one variation is compared to another.

BrightFunnel

The software is best suited for companies that have good data in their system. BrightFunnel can pull really detailed and important reports, but they will only be as accurate as what kind of data you are feeding into it.

Pros

  • Custom implementation, which is not something you can easily get with Google Analytics, at least not the free version.
  • Ease to build custom reports, you just pick your metrics from any report and voil√†.
  • Segments and metric breakdowns.

  • Easy to build dashboards that are customizable based on what you need! They are easy to read and can be shared with other members of the team or set to private.
  • A lot of things are customizable. You can set up your filters based on how you organize your system.
  • Customer Success team is absolutely stellar. Really invested in helping your company.

Cons

  • It can take some time for someone to get comfortable with knowing what to look for when validating proper Adobe Analytics tags. I'm not sure if this is something that can be improved upon, it's just something that I have noticed can take some time when somebody is first learning how to check the tags.
  • Issues I find with implementation appear to be due to improperly inputting variables inside greater than and less than signs (<>). This may be more on the implementation side of things, but perhaps there is something that Adobe Analytics can do with alerting a developer that a variable is not receiving any values.
  • One big limitation with Adobe Analytics for me has been not being able to sort between different iPhone devices and iOS operating system versions. This is data that I always look for to see which users are accessing a site, but unfortunately Adobe Analytics doesn't appear to be able to filter this.

  • The tool is very powerful and with it able to do so much, it can be hard to use it correctly. This is not a tool for a company with bad data in their system. The software is really dependent on the quality of your own data. If you feel like you are lost or not using the software to the fullest, it is best to consult with your CS manager for guidance.

The capabilities of the tool are vast and it can actually replace several other more basic tools and create a central reporting site for all marketing teams. The fact is, we can teach people across the company to engage with the tool very quickly and the value can be seen without a great deal of expertise.

Brightfunnel is a very useful tool but can only be used to the fullest if your data is there. It is hard for organizations with bad data to fully utilize its abilities.

Usability

Adobe Analytics6.8

Based on new user feedback, everyone has found it challenging to find what they need and customize reports to meet their desired outcomes. Different interfaces have inconsistent presentations and layouts which compound the challenge.

Support

Adobe Analytics5.7
Based on 9 answers
I have had many clients that are not thrilled with some aspects of the support. I think the actual day-to-day technical support (ClientCare) is great, but I have heard (and experienced) complaints about the the longer-term services (initial implementation, account management).

In-Person Training

Adobe Analytics3.6
Based on 3 answers
Myself and others have found the in-person training ok, but not outstanding. Trainers are good at explaining how to use the product features, but sometimes lack "real-world" experience on how to use the product as they are people who have often not previously been web analysts. There is also a shortcoming in company-provided training on advanced uses of the product. The implementation training is very good.

Videos of the different tools plus the knowledge base articles, but you do have to take the initiative to do them yourself. There are also a few great books on the subject. *Nod to Adam Greco's SiteCatalyst Handbook

Make sure you use a Tag Management System. Enterprise TMS solutions used to be very pricey but Adobe now offers DTM (previously Satellite) for free.

Return on Investment

  • I have increased my marketing reach by understanding how people are using my website and been able to increase the amount of repeat customers. I attribute this to ease of navigation as a result of Adobe Analytics and my push to understand it.
  • I spend less time on campaigns that do not work and am more responsive to what viewers want.
  • I am able to see the exact point at which a customer leaves my site and have some insight into why that is happening where it is.

  • It has been great to track the success of certain marketing collateral.
  • If you are big on event marketing, you can easily see if the events you hold are influencing opportunities.
