Overall it is a strong analytics tool and appears that it can do a good job for most scenarios. Cost is a factor, as it is a considerable investment.

Gigya

Gigya is a good product overall. It's great for going from "non-social" to 'highly-social" very rapidly. But as needs become more complex over time, the value starts to decrease a bit.

Pros

  • Dashboarding - These are fully customizable and give you an "at a glance" view of the state of your website each time you open them up.
  • Beautiful Reports - Reports can be customized and when printed or downloaded, are "management ready" without having to export to Excel and try to make it look more attractive
  • Customizable Metrics - Anything you can imagine you want to measure, there is likely a way.

  • Gigya provide a range of flexible APIs which support the development of bespoke engagement tools. They also provide out of the box engagement tools like comments and reactions.
  • Gigya's identity query tool makes it straightforward for users to query the user database using straightforward SQL queries.
  • Gigya's cloud storage is a safe and secure alternative to self-hosted databases.

Cons

  • Price point-some of Adobe Analytics competitors offer similar solutions or free or at a cheaper cost. While competitors solutions are limited and not nearly as efficient; they get the job done in certain marketing applications.

  • There are some issues in keeping up with Facebook and Twitter changes. Generally, they are on top of changes, but sometimes things break.
  • Facebook friend list is cached in Gigya and the displayed list is 24 hours old. This can be a problem when we really need the most up-to-date list. It's often more expedient for us to go to Facebook directly to be sure we have the latest list.
  • we are a preferred partner of both Facebook and Twitter and, as such, we get sneak previews of changes to these platforms well before Gigya does.
  • There are some issues with token management. Essentially, the problem is that session credentials handled by our Nike app are not compatible with Gigya. This means that every individual user has to have an individual authentication key instead of Nike master key which results in more overhead and calls to the platforms to manage session authentication.

The capabilities of the tool are vast and it can actually replace several other more basic tools and create a central reporting site for all marketing teams. The fact is, we can teach people across the company to engage with the tool very quickly and the value can be seen without a great deal of expertise.

It's worth it to us to have Gigya support these lower tier platforms. I might conceivably switch to another product that could do this as well and would consider supporting Facebook and Twitter directly in-house.

Usability

Adobe Analytics6.8
Based on 9 answers
I think there are some interface improvements that reduce Adobe SiteCatalyst's usability. For example, having two different variable types (eVars and sProps), can be confusing to end-users. Additionally, there are few "out-of-the-box" reports and dashboards that a novice end-user can take advantage of right away. The learning curve on Adobe SiteCatalyst is greater than other tools like Google Analytics.

Reliability and Availability

Adobe SiteCatalyst has a good up-time track record, but there are cases in which the interface reports a "Network Acceleration" issue, which can be frustrating. There are also times when data can be "latent" for customers, but most of these cases are due to spikes in traffic or temporary server issues.

No major problems here. However, there was a recent incident where an internal update at Gigya created huge load on their servers and locked all users out of the system.

I have never experienced any sort of problem with this products speed or throughput

There are some latency issues. The 24 hour caching problem mentioned earlier is a problem. Sometimes the Gigya system makes two calls instead of a single call if we go directly to the social platform. For this reason, it's sometimes more efficient to go direct rather than use Gigya.

Support

Adobe Analytics5.7
Based on 9 answers
I have had many clients that are not thrilled with some aspects of the support. I think the actual day-to-day technical support (ClientCare) is great, but I have heard (and experienced) complaints about the the longer-term services (initial implementation, account management).

In-Person Training

Adobe Analytics3.6
Based on 3 answers
Myself and others have found the in-person training ok, but not outstanding. Trainers are good at explaining how to use the product features, but sometimes lack "real-world" experience on how to use the product as they are people who have often not previously been web analysts. There is also a shortcoming in company-provided training on advanced uses of the product. The implementation training is very good.

Online Training

Adobe Analytics8.0
Based on 4 answers
The online training for Adobe SiteCatalyst consists of short product videos. These are ok, but only go so far. For a while Adobe charged a fee for this, but recently made these available for free. There are many great blog posts that help users learn how to apply the product as well.

They trained me in a train the trainer model. I then trained the internal team. Total training was about two hours, with an additional two hours for system setup.
Training was maybe a little thin, but the system was fairly easy to learn and this wasn't really a problem.

Implementation

Adobe Analytics8.0
Based on 7 answers
I have found that initial SiteCatalyst implementations are too basic to be useful. Adobe professional services is usually tasked with the initial implementation using their "Fusion" methodology. This is good for vertical-based basics, but I find that many clients fail to go beyond this. This has the negative effect of selling SiteCatalyst short within the organization, since first impressions can be long-lasting.

They helped a lot with the implementation. They would always send examples of implementations we were tying to perform. They were very helpful. This was ll done over the phone or in online meetings.

Alternatives Considered

Google Analytics is very similar though maybe a bit more user friendly. I believe you need less training to use Google Analytics. We do pull very similar data to Adobe Analytics. QlikView pulls completely different information for us. We are able to really understand email campaigns with QlikView and get into the nitty gritty of each specific emails statistics

We looked at some products that were being used by our parent corporate office. We also looked at a couple of other vendors, but Gigya was clearly the leader.

Return on Investment

  • This has increased accuracy with our story. We are able to better back up our marketing plans through real time data.
  • Allowed us to see what is working and fix our plans accordingly. If we see that one product has many more visitors on a particular day we can review what other marketing things we did that day that may have effected it.

  • One we implemented the social log-in functionality, our user base increased by 40%. As soon as people could lo-gin through Facebook and Twitter, we grew rapidly.
  • Comments have increased three-fold. Through the sharing capability, registered users share content on FB, and then others click on the link and come to us for the first time.
  • LiveChat. Our user base is very dedicated and engaged. LiveChat is really a service for our most engaged power users. This provides them with something they want and makes them even more engaged.
