Adobe Analytics

Adobe Analytics is well-suited for quick analysis of our website/mobile app especially at a summarized level. Where we start using other tools is when we have to get really granular, such as at a single customer level, though this is partly a product of how our pages are tagged.

Salesforce Marketing Cloud Email Studio

Salesforce Marketing Cloud Email Suited is great for businesses who send a lot of emails out on a regular basis, who have to manage many different distributions or email subscriptions, and who are looking for help managing audiences and automating responses. It might be less suited for an organization that does not use email communication or who just sends out 1-2 emails per week.

Pros

  • Next Page Flow reports provide a quick and easy way to see what path customers are taking on the website.
  • The flexibility that creating segments gives the user for analysis purposes is great. A lot of insights can be generated when different segments are compared.
  • The web interface allows for users to quickly pick up on how to use Adobe Analytics, which is a huge advantage over just pointing people to where the raw data can be found since middle management and executives shouldn't be spending time coding and trying to get the data into a visually useful format.

  • Susbscriber list import and management is simple and easy to maintain.
  • Tracking/monitoring success of campaigns is thorough and relevant for both marketers and management.
  • Creation of text-based emails based on HTML (graphical) emails is simple.

Cons

  • Adobe's Click Map tool is unusable and they recommend you use ClickTale. Considering how much we pay it doesn't seem acceptable that you should pay for another 3rd party product, moreover it means we receive numerous internal requests for adding ClickTale tracking to pages which becomes a resource burden. I've been lead to believe from one of Adobe's product managers that something is being worked on - which could mean another Adobe acquisition.
  • Adobe's training and reference material needs an overhaul, much of it is outdated. I've also suggested to Adobe to improve or better promote the community as when you have an issue it would be easier to resolve questions with other knowledgeable Adobe customers opposed to Client Care.
  • There's no multi-channel attribution - this is great and free feature available in Google Analytics however Adobe try to upsell you the "Premium" version of Adobe Analytics for what should be available in the "Standard" version.
  • Adobe makes it confusing for everyone with their product name changing and re-branding - it's now called Adobe Analytics (I think), most people still refer to it as Omniture or SiteCatalyst. Documentation and URLs reference legacy names which adds to the confusion - especially new employees. It's only the people in Adobe's marketing/branding department that care about this stuff. How can Ad hoc analysis be a better name than Discover!?

  • Extremely expensive. If you're a small business, forget about it, unless this is your ONLY option. There may be other great email marketing platforms out there that work just as well
  • A very long process to send out an email. Step by step...
  • Sometimes the platform is slow and buggy

We're embedded within the Adobe ecosystem with - Adobe Analytics, Target and CQ5/AEM. With all these tools implemented correctly and with the right team there's real opportunity to leverage insight and drive revenue. Moreover with the more advanced features enabled there's possibility to replace other reporting systems and reduce internal resources

Usability

Again, learning how to use the system is difficult. It is nearly unusable if you haven't received training, and training from Adobe is EXTREMELY expensive

I think the tool is easy to use, protects a company from the spam legislation and manages subscribers very well. It is simple to create a non-complex email. I like the survey function on the email tool as well. Overall usability is quite easy and no necessary to have an IT background or extensive knowledge to use. It is helpful, though, to have an understanding of HTML for formatting at this point.

Reliability and Availability

Adobe Analytics9.0

Adobe SiteCatalyst has a good up-time track record, but there are cases in which the interface reports a "Network Acceleration" issue, which can be frustrating. There are also times when data can be "latent" for customers, but most of these cases are due to spikes in traffic or temporary server issues.

Upgrades and timing of the upgrades were communicated well and planned during off hours for our work. If we did have a campaign scheduled during that time, it would kick-off after the system was back active. There were a few unplanned system down times, but it was a rare occurrence and those times were also short in duration.

Exact Target performs well and is relatively easy to learn. It handles subscriber management well, and is easy to organize lists and segregation of those subscribers. Emails are easy to classify and group together for re-use or resending to different demographics of the recipients. The product is reliable, and metrics of the campaign results are easy to obtain and interpret.

Support

Adobe Analytics5.7
Based on 9 answers
I have had many clients that are not thrilled with some aspects of the support. I think the actual day-to-day technical support (ClientCare) is great, but I have heard (and experienced) complaints about the the longer-term services (initial implementation, account management).

Support from ExactTarget is very responsive and helpful. The follow-up is timely and the online help actually answered most of my questions and gave information that I needed without having to file an actual help ticket with the support desk. It is also nice to be able to email or CALL (with real people) for support, when needed.

In-Person Training

Adobe Analytics3.6
Based on 3 answers
Myself and others have found the in-person training ok, but not outstanding. Trainers are good at explaining how to use the product features, but sometimes lack "real-world" experience on how to use the product as they are people who have often not previously been web analysts. There is also a shortcoming in company-provided training on advanced uses of the product. The implementation training is very good.

Online Training

Adobe Analytics8.0
Based on 4 answers
The online training for Adobe SiteCatalyst consists of short product videos. These are ok, but only go so far. For a while Adobe charged a fee for this, but recently made these available for free. There are many great blog posts that help users learn how to apply the product as well.

Implementation

Adobe Analytics8.0
Based on 7 answers
The success of implementations depend primarily on the solution design, and also on the ability to work with developers to get the solution implemented correctly. This is not an aspect of the product per se.

Salesforce Marketing Cloud Email Studio7.9

Easy to implement, with simple emails and solutions initially created. More advanced usage of the tool and more advanced subscriber attribute usage was implemented during later phases when the knowledge of the tool increased. Monitoring success and results of email campaigns were done at a high level initially, but not fully used until the tool and email marketing as a whole was better understood in the corporation.

Alternatives Considered

Webtrends, Coremetrics, Google Analytics

More expensive than MailChimp but works hand-and-glove with Salesforce CRM. I like the data extensions that allow you to connect to outside systems and data sources. I think the new Journey Builder and Einstein predictive content are the key differentiators between Email software like MailChimp and Digital Marketing software like Marketing Cloud.

We had approximately 20,000 recipients of most email campaigns, with some higher amounts and some smaller campaigns. The tools is easy to use and the recipient list size is really not a factor in the complexity or work to create and email campaign. Our campaigns could just have easily been sent to many more people, with virtually no additional work.

Return on Investment

  • It has allowed us to generate stats for specific customers
  • It has showed us internally where traffic is being generated
  • It has showed us which pieces of content are most popular
No photo available
  • Marketing Cloud makes it easier for you to track what campaigns are working and not through analytics. This helps us determine where to spend our resources.
  • Tieing in multiple channels is great. Social, web, etc. You can see the whole picture of the customer's journey throughout their lifecycle.
  • Again, not having one tool to rule them all also hurts return since you're paying for multiple areas.
