Adobe Audience Manager

If you feel as though your online presence isn't quite hitting where it should, Adobe Audience Manager (AAM) might provide the insights to help you identify the areas in which it is lacking (the gaps). As a result, you can adjust your approach and optimize your customer interactions. With that said, if you currently deploy software for the analysis of customer data, you should consider whether AAM will add value. I would suggest setting some strategic objectives so that you can ensure that AAM will meet your current and future needs.

SAP Hybris

Hybris is really good for a quick start with enterprise e-commerce. It has a lot of solutions from scratch (responsive storefront, content management system, call centre, order management, reporting, etc.). Most of the common customer journeys are already covered by SAP hybris and you will need to do minimum customisations.

Pros

  • We are able to generate reports that provide valuable insights into potential customer behavior, allowing us to better focus our marketing efforts.
  • By allowing us to understand who are key audiences are and how they overlap with other brands and products, AAM allows us to get a fuller picture of how we should target our audience.
  • Reporting in AAM is wonderful in that it is easy to understand and exportable. The use of graphics and updates make it easier to share insights with various team members--even those with minimum experience in marketing and analytics.

  • Wide list of promotion and voucher (coupon) types allows you to build different promo campaigns.
  • The WCMS system allows flexible management of your content with different personalisation rules and preview mode.
  • Call Centre module helps you to handle more purchases and assist your customers.
  • The Assisted Service Module extends the area of your customers with "Internet" newbies. A call centre agent could do a full set of customer actions with the help of this module.
  • Commerce oriented data model (Products, Categories, Catalogues, Prices, Customers, Orders etc..) of hybris allows you to save a lot of time when you implementing new e-commerce solution.
  • Able to handle a lot of requests. Hybris is a well scalable system. So, with proper configuration, it will work fine on a big promo campaign like Black Friday or Cyber Monday.

Cons

  • Overall, AAM is a great software but it is also expensive. I would advise those considering it to give time to the trial first before fully committing.
  • Mobile analysis is not all that it's cracked up to be, with an inability to accurate track which mobile stats are unique. This might have changed since we used the mobile analytics.
  • While the insights are great for sharing, training users on how to use AAM can be challenging as it doesn't seem geared to the average user. Perhaps Adobe can provide more robust training tools or suggestions to make this transition smoother.

  • Though there is an online community presence for support, it is not as strong as other platforms I have used.
  • The Content Management System though functional is a bit dated and can be difficult for non technical business owners to manage. Other industry leading CMS solutions are generally used in conjunction with Hybris in my experience.
  • Product indexing and search also is not up to industry leaders, used another product in conjunction with hybris to accomplish this business need.

Figuring out the CMS tools took some time. Supporting documentation is sparse.I also found the tools to be slow at times, making simple template edits an arduous process.

I give this an 8 instead of a 10 because in hindsight, while I am extremely happy with the platform and the things I've learned through my exposure to it, I also see so many areas for improvement in the outcome of my efforts. My advice to front end developers working with Hybris and/or the Java stack for the first time, is to not be intimidated by it. Question everything. Trust your intuition. Do not be afraid to refactor or completely replace something that appears integral to the platform if you see a clear benefit to doing so. It's much less far reaching than you think and the core system will not come crumbling to its knees if you make broad sweeping alterations. In fact, the energy you will expend to retool your site with a new framework will grow in tandem with the amount of time you spend hesitating, and at some point may become critical enough to force your hand while simultaneously becoming risky enough to destabilize your entire project delivery. If you don't like JQuery UI, punt it. If you don't care for the Blueprint CSS framework, burn it down. Making the strategic decision to adopt the toolset that best fits your organization from the very beginning will pay off in spades.

Alternatives Considered

From a main user standpoint, we selected AAM due to my experience with it and our ability to easily integrate it with our currently system. While we evaluated the other options, it was Adobe's customer service and reputation that ultimately served as an additional reason to deploy AAM instead of other options. I cannot for certain say that it is 100% more effective or useful than the other options, but it has served us well. As with all potential solutions, evaluating what works best in your current environment will inevitably lead you to the right choice.

Hybris becomes a leader in e-commerce platforms as SAP continuously improves it. Each half year we can see a new version for a lot of solutions for the most rerecent-commerce challenges: configurable promotions, coupons, wish lists, unbounded carts, live edits, responsive design, mobile app, etc. Other [products] could also be good for specific cases, but hybris looks better for mid-sized and big retailers.

Return on Investment

  • We have seen a near 20% increase in revenue on targeted customers through employing our insights from AAM.
