The service provision is good the accounts customer service is poor so I would struggle to give BC a better than average review, if only they could offer customers a better accounts service then the value would be much higher.

CoreMedia

I think that CoreMedia is well-suited for a big organization because many staff members can use it at once and, with IT staff, can have a very convenient, consistent system. It may be less appropriate for a small organization where only one or two people are managing web development and don't need as vast or complex of a system

Pros

  • As mentioned previously, we use the Content Holder module quite often because of the ability to place any html content that is prone to being frequently edited. It simplifies the process and allows us to simplify our templates.
  • We also like the ease of the Photo Gallery and how simple it is to either add or remove photos from the gallery once it has been placed.
  • Media Downloads seems to be a very helpful resource. With its ability to be categorized both by file type and customized categories within the web site and then placed by category also helps us streamline document placement especially when there are large number of those resources to organize.
  • News is obviously a much needed resource and it is simple to add news items, classify them and place them on template pages where they are fed. It is one of the easiest items to teach new clients how to manage.
  • Web Apps is our most prized module because of the ease of creating a database, then being able to style the output in any shape form or fashion.

  • Integrates well with existing infrastructure and software applications. We leveraged ActiveDirectory authentication, a Solr search engine, Java/Spring, Oracle, and other technologies.
  • Allows for multiple workflows for content publishing based on user roles. Each of our sites has separate workflows and allow for managed and unmanaged content production.
  • Templating system is extremely customizable without being unmanageable. This allows developers to custom tailor content and presentation without worry about performance.

Cons

  • I love web apps but it can be time consuming to get the bulk import file just right the first time
  • Support is good, but the effort to research can be massive for unusual issues
  • Metadata on blog posts and pages can require lots of content editing at a slow pace

  • Every so often, there would be issues with HTML, that were occasionally difficult to troubleshoot.
  • Suggest having a preview feature that would show exactly what the website will look like after changes are implemented.
  • Add direct social media feature.

Likelihood to Renew

There is no renew option, it is a one stop buy-in. There are two different options that can be chosen.

CoreMedia continues to refine and deliver new features. They also explore new technologies and trends, like social media integration. The platform is solid and growing. We are also slightly locked into using CoreMedia. Migrating such a large amount of content to another system would likely not be feasible or prudent.

Support

Adobe Business Catalyst8.6
Based on 5 answers
I have used Adobe support for many of their products. I find that they are quick to respond and present a wide variety of support platforms from forums to online chat. Depending on the nature of the issue I am usually able to get resolution within 24 to 48 hours. With more complex issues I have never had a problem with Adobe dropping the ball.

Set aside more time than you think you need to migrate content. That is the hard part. Implementing the technology is easy.

Alternatives Considered

More reliable; more integrated tools
Nancy Sheridan profile photo
I prefer the CoreMedia system to Drupal because, in my experience, I have had many more inconsistencies with Drupal and issues with web errors. CoreMedia seems to be more up-to-date with the latest technology and has a more concrete editing process

Return on Investment

  • Better customer service
  • Increased efficiency in deploying websites
  • Customer satisfaction with the system
Scott Shefler profile photo
  • Increased employee efficiency
  • Sometimes unsatisfactory reviews from users because our site is hard to navigate or it looks "old"
  • Increased organization of content. Although this is still an issue we're working to fix, there is the potential to be more organized in CoreMedia.
