The service provision is good the accounts customer service is poor so I would struggle to give BC a better than average review, if only they could offer customers a better accounts service then the value would be much higher.

We love their forms, and the automation you're able to execute post form submission. I would say they are unparalleled in this area. The flexibility and power the automation provides is invaluable, and reduces the overhead with your Salesforce instance. Triggered actions are pretty fantastic as well - love that you're able to trigger things based on "in-time" actions - or now and when they happen in the future, AND you can trigger actions based on PAST actions, based on your custom timeline. Can't tell you how many times that's come in handy! Their data management is absolutely stellar, and the things you're able to do on that front are unrivaled. WYSIWYG is one of the better I've seen (love Unbounce in this area - they're close). Ability to inject forms into your webpages with ease - javascript or static HTML. Ability to capture utm parameters or cookie values is HUGE for us

Pros

  • Analytics: I am able to see on multiple levels traffic, clicks, and most importantly search terms for improving SEO. The reports are easy to generate as well as read, especially for small inexperienced business owners.
  • Marketing: When using the BC platform businesses are able to link up easily with Adobe Marketing to automatically send out emails and newsletters. Its a very smooth and painless process.
  • Online Editing: This is probably the best part of BC. Once a design is approved and launched on the platform, my clients do not have to contact me for small content updates. This frees me up as a small business owner to concentrate on design, new clients, and larger projects for existing clients.

  • Marketo is a robust lead management platform that houses all necessary customer/prospect information needed to deploy relevant campaigns.
  • Easy to use Salesforce integration
  • In-depth list segmentation

Cons

  • Multi Client Management: The dashboard for managing multiple clients as a reseller is a little difficult to get to. There is also no very easy way for me to manage multiple clients at once. I have to log into and out of individual client accounts to do billing or management.
  • Lack of Server support: There are certain server protocols and languages that are not supported using BC. For example I cannot build a custom php database and upload to BC. I am required to use their tools.

  • Period costs - updating these is a manual process and there is no way to upload on mass. Keeping these updated is a massive manual effort.
  • UI - currently quite dated looking, but I know there is new UI coming.

The simplicity of this platform is the main reason. BC is incredibly easy for first time users and very streamlined for experienced users. I also look at the integration with other Adobe products in my company. Being able to stay completely in one piece of software (Muse or Dreamweaver) for a full design and publish make much better use of my time.

Usability

Overall it is a "plug and play" interface. The majority of the work is done in other software interfaces. Managing billing, user roles and custom reports are all that you need to manage in the actual BC user interface. For my business this is an incredible benefit as I have to leave my preferred software less.

I have been working with Marketo for about two years and am a Marketo System Administrator (technical user) so with my experience and background I find it easy to use and navigate. However, non-technical users have a hard time using the system.

Pages do not load quickly and caching is not available with Marketo. Google PageSpeed ranks it pretty low, which is something I'm hoping they'll improve in future releases.

Support

I have used Adobe support for many of their products. I find that they are quick to respond and present a wide variety of support platforms from forums to online chat. Depending on the nature of the issue I am usually able to get resolution within 24 to 48 hours. With more complex issues I have never had a problem with Adobe dropping the ball.

Think long and hard about how you want your background programs/campaigns to run (those that score people who come to your site- what scores you give them, what campaigns you bucket people into, etc.) These form the basis of your system and are not necessarily easy to change down the road because it can mess up your overall company analytics, so make sure you have a well thought-out solid plan in place before you begin to achieve maximum success

Alternatives Considered

Business Catalyst is extremely easier to use and navigate than most other options. In comparison to other CMS systems, the setup time is minimal and very straight forward

Marketo is a better value for enterprise level data management, automation, integrated functions, customization, list management, scheduling and reporting.

Return on Investment

  • I used this service for people who had little or no budget, set up the platform and showed them how to use it. However, I would use it again if someone on a budget wanted a good looking site that could handle eCommerce.
Andrew Conniff profile photo
  • Lead velocity improvements, faster lead conversion.
  • Well orchestrated, predictable, repeatable campaigns.
  • Increased employee efficiency as employees found it easier to understand and confident to make changes.
  • Better funnel reporting.
