The service provision is good the accounts customer service is poor so I would struggle to give BC a better than average review, if only they could offer customers a better accounts service then the value would be much higher.

WooCommerce

WooCommerce can be recommended for small and medium scale online stores. Especially for the existing WordPress users. But for sites that need a lot of security, WooCommerce won't be a cost-effective and easy to manage platform for e-commerce. WooCommerce is a great solution for creating digital and physical product stores, but having a good web hosting provider is the main thing to manage a hassle-free online store.

Pros

  • Extremely stable platform.
  • Very flexible with the modules and web apps features.
  • The development UI side of the platform makes it very comfortable and easy for front end coding.

  • It's a stable and easy-to-use e-commerce plugin with WordPress
  • WooCommerce is a free platform
  • WooCommerce supports almost every payment gateway providers
  • Making a digital product store is simple with WooCommerce

Cons

  • Better drill down of the reports & analytics feature.
  • Better integration and clarity with the CRM (Customer Relations Management) section.
  • More selection of HTML5/CSS3 Responsive templates.

  • I would prefer to see more shipping plugins available in the core WooCommerce, as many of the shipping plugins are pricey. Sometimes my clients balk at the cost when adding more than 1 shipping option.
  • I'd like to see some more options for the reports section, as more advanced reporting would be awesome...though there are plugins for many things, it would be nice to see the core product offer it.
  • I'd also like to see the ability to customize design and layout without having to need additional plugins.

For the types of clients that need all the features Business Catalyst offers, I would not hesitate to renew our use of it. Those types of clients, however, are few and far between. The tech support Adobe offers for Business Catalyst could range from Quite Good to Adequate; it depended on the support personnel

Easy to set up. Easy to use. Very low investment upfront. The investment is basically the cost of hiring someone to build the website, hosting, and any plugins necessary.

I gave it lots of points for being a simple product that instantly gives you a store. Very intuitive and simple for the client to update or implement. Loses LOTS of points when you want to do anything besides just sell stuff (coupons, etc) then it makes you pay big money for the add-ons and makes it difficult and time-intensive to develop your own.

The support provided by Adobe is excellent. Though the knowledge base, forums, blogs and online chat questions most all answers can be found. In the event that you are unable to find an answer or you have a unique situation simply post a question to the forums. These forums are regularly monitored by Adobe and its users.

Alternatives Considered

We prefer Adobe Business Catalyst over WordPress. Adobe Business Catalyst websites are more secure and you don't have to update plug-ins. Saving our clients in cost over time.

PrestaShop: It's Woocommerce poorer brother, without the CMS, the community, the devs and designers. It's the worst of both worlds. Shopify: For us, it wasn't possible to use because of our scale. It depends on how many products you will be managing and how much you want to invest. It's more inflexible but you can integrate with lots of shipping, themes and marketing softwares.Magento: Scalable but very hard and expensive to change. If you have big pockets and need to manage a multi-store in many countries, I'd think about this. Otherwise, if you are a startup who needs something cheap and fast, avoid. We used it but switched to Woocommerce.
