Adobe Campaign

Adobe Campaign is well suited for enterprise-level marketing communications. It can manage and deploy large volumes of emails very efficiently. Workflows can allow multiple touches, staggered sends, and segmentation to occur all within one delivery if needed. Interactions and reporting can happen in real time or near real time if needed. When integrated with the rest of the Marketing Cloud, Campaign becomes even more powerful as platforms like Analytics and AEM can have functionality brought directly into Campaign for more effective content creation and reporting.

* Ask what you're looking to achieve with your email program; what benefits/added value will Return Path provide that your current ESP cannot* Ensure you're scoping the entire project, so that Return Path's efforts will provide valuable feedback * I found them to be very transparent about their methodology and expertise, so lay what you need on the line and they'll be very open and honest as to if they can help you or not.

Pros

  • The workflow interface is good. You have the ability to design campaigns on a very simple or very complex level depending on what you are trying to achieve.
  • The UI is getting better. Adobe is making Campaign easier to navigate and more like its other solutions across the Adobe Marketing Cloud.
  • When paired with other solutions in the Adobe Marketing Cloud such as Analytics and Target, marketers have access to additional tools that otherwise they would have to look elsewhere for.

  • Individualized attention. They really dug in to understand our products and services.
  • Easy-to-understand training and actionable items that you can sustain over a long period of time.
  • They're embedded in our instance of Exact Target, so I'm able to review the entire email program and don't have to open up a separate tool to gather this information.

Cons

  • User interface - it's not modern looking. I wouldn't call it particularly user friendly. And overall it's not highly responsive
  • Debugging: the information given is not always enough and contact with Neolane support needs to be made
  • Resource management: the software in general (the client and the server side) are a tad resource heavy

  • Certification pricing - if too high some could do without

Once you go for Neolane you are a bit stuck with it, so we will most likely stay with Neolane. Cost of investment and training are the main factors at work here. We havesimply have invested too much in the product to stop using it after 2 years. That said, my score of 8 does not imply that the product is worthy of getting an 8 but reflects our willingness to renew.Given that upgrading to a new version will cost again a substantial sum, we most likely will keep using the current version we are on which is 6X.

We have two separate areas for using Return Path. Our web ecommerce area that is using only transactional emails and a marketing email program that is partnered on the backend with Return Path. I see Return Path continuing to be utilized with our marketing emails, but over time I see less need for our transactional emails to maintain Return Path components.

Support

I would say that generally the knowledge of the support team we work with is good, great even.I can't say that they seem to be very interested or involved in trying to make the product work best for us.They do what needs to be done, and they do it well - but not really going the extra mile.

Alternatives Considered

We used to use Experian, or CheetahMail as it's referred to. Overall with the cost of deployment and training there is not really a way of going back. Given the chance, we probably would have saved ourselves the cost and would have stuck with an SAAS agreement with either Experian or an equivalent. That is not to say that Adobe's Neolane is a bad product, in fact it's a fairly good product. However it needs a lot of polishing to become the all round pack it should be.

I used to host and manage email internally. I moved this into the cloud with an ExactTarget email marketing hub to manage all of the email being sent. The plus for Return Path is that the white listing features offered are not offered by other vendors or not to the same degree as Return Path. However, a lot of the delivery functions and reporting with email open rates and bounce rates was replaced with the functionality in ExactTarget.

Return on Investment

  • Adobe Campaign helped us deliver personalized message in a scalable way and across channels. That is huge as the customer experience is delightful ..and consistent , whether they are on web , or in store or on phone. More Clicks and More Conversion
  • Tracking of what users do on the content delivered to them and dynamic inclusion of users into different journeys is a must have feature, else you are driving a car without a rear view or side view mirror.
  • No other tool out there helps you map the whole end to end journey, with reporting, content, customization and unified approach for inbound as well as outbound interactions. That omni channel model itself is one big reason to go with Adobe Campaign.

  • Return Path has helped me enable better email delivery for our global partners e.g. some of our applications that send email to consumers in Australia or Europe.
  • Some of the functions that we utilized with Return Path were proving to be costly based on what the business needs were for us. That is why we cut back on some of the services we utilized.
