Adobe Captivate

Well suited: Gives your presentation a different appearance and allows you to create simulations that lessen your steps when it comes to making training/simulation videos.Less appropriate: Not as user-friendly as I thought. Animations/states are hidden and cause the creator to take extra steps versus using a different type of software program tool.

Grovo

Grovo is well suited for learning basically anything. Since you can upload any material/ training videos you want, Grovo can essentially be used to learn...anything. Although, it's super nice that there are some built in micro-lessons where you can learn various material that's already onboard. At my company, our engineering department used Grovo to guide us through an SQL database querying bootcamp in which they provided the lessons and material. Grovo was an excellent interface for doing this, and I learned a lot in the span of that short bootcamp

There is no doubt in my mind that we will be using Adobe Captivate for years to come. There are so many uses for the software that we are just scratching the surface. The more we use it, the better it gets. This is a great option for anyone looking for an eLearning authoring tool.

Usability

Adobe Captivate does take some getting used to. There are features that are much more convoluted than they need to be, but overall it is a great product with a some excellent features. Being in a pretty small market, Adobe Captivate and Articulate Storyline dominate the space. They are not the same software, but allow for eLearning authoring. Each has their benefit and their downside, but, for me, Adobe Captivate edges out Storyline.

Every issue I have ever had was handled with care and quite thoroughly. After the initial conversation on the phone, I received frequent emails letting me know what they were working on, and also received follow up phone calls. After I found the resolution, I got one more call to ensure everything was working properly. The follow up was quite surprising.

Alternatives Considered

As I mentioned before, I've used Adobe Captivate for a long time. I've used other authoring tools, but always come back to Adobe Captivate to do my heavy lifting. Perhaps, I'm just more comfortable with Adobe Captivate and always am surprised at what I can do with it. Camtasia works well with my video, but Adobe Captivate can do it all.

Previously we were using Blackboard and an inhouse solution. Both of these took many hours to get ready for new training objectives and provided mediocre employe skill retention. Grovo reduced the overhead for training and has produced better results regarding employee skill retention. We selected Grovo because it was a better solution, it was easier and provided a better result
