Adobe Connect

Adobe Connect is well suited for education. There is a lot of flexibility in designing the meeting room layout and the ability to have breakout rooms is a major advantage over other platforms. For simple meetings that are just there to have webcams so you can see all the meeting participants (rather than a face-to-face), and do not require sharing many documents, Adobe Connect works well but is overkill and other products would suffice.

Oracle Eloqua

Eloqua is well suited for clients with the need to automate marketing tasks to save on time and money. This would be most marketing teams and primarily B2B. Eloqua may be used for B2C marketing but there are better fit products for that.Eloqua is especially great for large and/or complex marketing, sales, and IT teams. It has the ability to be customized to meet their needs while not being extremely difficult to setup and manage. It has functionality that its competitors lack to support global, large marketing teams.

Pros

  • It allows us to present exactly how we want to present; We can share one PowerPoint presentation for all speakers to use during their presentation, allowing them to move their own slides. Allows for a cleaner presentation overall.
  • Relatively user-friendly once you're in your Seminar Room for your presentation. Attorneys seem to be able to use the software with ease.
  • Various pods in your Seminar Room allow you to set up your room exactly as you want it with the features you use most often or find helpful during your presentation.

  • Easy to use interface that does not require technical skills for basic campaign execution tasks like setting up emails, forms, landing pages, segments, and campaigns
  • Highly customizable. This comes in handy with lead management workflows, advanced nurture campaigns, and integrations of all kinds but especially with CRMs (Salesforce.com, MS Dynamics Cloud, and Oracle Sales Cloud)
  • Eloqua has features that allow you to segregate data, reporting, assets, etc. so all the users can share one Eloqua nicely. These are great features for larger marketing teams and/or teams with users in different regions with different needs.

Cons

  • Overall support and communication from Adobe Connect is lacking. When new features come out, we have a lack of knowledge of what changes are actually being made. Mostly we figure out what the changes are based on our own experiences and usually something that goes wrong during a Web Conference. There should be detailed information that is provided to us when changes will be made and how to adapt our current processes with those changes.
  • Setting up a Web Conference is not intuitive with Adobe Connect. Even after using the product for over a year, I still refer back to the notes I took during my tutorial session. Making a mistake with one question in either the Seminar Room or the Event Management tab can create major problems the day of the Web Conference. The process needs to be streamlined in order to make the front-end process more user friendly.
  • Certain features of the room itself could have been better thought out before implenting across the board. For example, the rule of only 10 people maximum in a room until a certain point can actually cause major problems for users. There have been situations on our team where hosts and speakers have been locked out of the room right before a presentation. I think they need to listen to their users more in order to implement more changes with the software.
  • I think Adobe Connect lacks reliability. Many of our attendees and even speakers or hosts are dropped from the Seminar Room during our presentations. This is unacceptable during external client facing programs.

Price is always a factor. Switching from one platform for another is almost never a lateral move. If you intend to switch purely for monetary reasons, you may want to reconsider due to the large step backwards to do so. This will cost more than the savings would catch up to in years. If you have legitimate concerns about the platforms performance, I would do a lot of research to make sure the competitor doesn't have the same or worse. Also, another thing to consider is with a newer platform competitor means fewer experts to turn to, either as consultants or new hire employees. A lot of the times customers tend to think the grass is greener on the other side, but really the grass is greener where you water it.

As sophisticated a product as Adobe Connect, the ease of use is outstanding. In my experience, even a user with very little knowledge of Adobe Connect can begin using and even leading sessions with very little training to get started with the basic features. Additional training is needed to become comfortable with the number of available features, but learning curve even for those is no steeper than would normally be expected from similar software.

Prices do not seem to vary much among resellers of the Adobe Connect hosted license; the only price variation you're likely to find are among the audio providers. When implementing, you may also wish to look into expanding the amount of storage you are allowed on the server to avoid any problems later on as your library of files starts to build up

Alternatives Considered

The best part of Adobe Connect is sharing the information with others who use this software. If you attend school and love taking notes through your iPad or Computer, you can share what notes you are writing with everyone in your classes. Also, it is a great virtual meeting place.

It can be difficult to ensure everyone is following the guidelines, best practices and policy of the tool. I am constantly policing it and finding users who are not doing what it required or sending messages via Eloqua that are not approved
