Vidyo

I've had HR professionals ask about using it for interviews. Gone are the days where we have to spend hundreds of dollars to fly candidates in or limit ourselves to phone interviews. Vidyo with it's high reliability has saved the organization thousands in travel costs with candidate recruitment. Business meetings that can often be troubling to get leaders and executive all in one room, Vidyo has functioned extraordinarily well in bringing in people from home, on the road, or the airport. Mobile capabilities are easy and fast.Quick daily calls and chats in the office are probably best suited for the free options out there as Vidyo is not a free service like others. Better yet general phone calls will suffice.

Pros

  • Collaboration - It doesn't portray itself as a high-definition video platform. Most times it is accessed with webcams. But a strong focus has always been on its collaborative nature. Allowing for a wide range of materials to be shared with other viewers, it can be used for information collection as well as distribution with input coming from any user.
  • Communication - With a large portion of businesses looking to hold larger meetings allowing a greater portion of their employee base to take part in a meeting that might have once been local, or required people to be flown in, it provides a simpler means to gather information from many locations all at once - globally.
  • Cost - Many businesses are looking to cut costs from their events, and Adobe Connect is an ideal platform to help the bottom line. With one installation, you have now a perfect place for meetings to be held around the world without the costs of hotel rooms, conference areas, food and travel. Your users don't even have to get dressed if they don't want to. information is passed on with only a click into a meeting room.

  • Ease of giving access to outside users via direct email link. Send out a public or private (permanent or temporary) link that provides access to the room to anyone They simply click the link to first download the desktop or mobile version based on device. Then they use that very same link to immediately join the room.
  • No hassle of setting up and verifying accounts as you do with others. Almost no technical problems of having to allow the application to access microphone or camera - common issue with Skype in my experience.
  • Most importantly, it's secure as you want it to be. No worries about information sharing, leaking, and Vidyo give great ability to share your screen, take control, and display documents.

  • The design and the branding give little to be desired
  • Customer support is below average
  • The API must be rewritten and add more functions that are commonly requested.
  • Project codes are not well maintained and hard to find.

I think Adobe Connect is a great collaboration and meeting software but in our industry it is key to be able to share models and mock ups in real time, we found that our more robust programs caused Adobe Connect meetings and tools to lag. Overall though it is a great, easy to use collaboration platform

We have an internal tech team dedicated to setup and troubleshooting of Vidyo. This makes it very easy, because we have access to our own employees for help. Rarely have I or anyone I work with had to escalate something to Vidyo themselves, and we're lucky to have the internal administrators that run the show. Almost like Vidyo is ours and ours alone.

The ability to have most of the functionality of a full LMS at a fraction of the cost is huge. I can create manage and deploy both synchronous and asynchronous training based on the situation and all of my training is tracked through a series of easily created reports

Implementation

Adobe Connect7.9
Based on 4 answers
Prices do not seem to vary much among resellers of the Adobe Connect hosted license; the only price variation you're likely to find are among the audio providers. When implementing, you may also wish to look into expanding the amount of storage you are allowed on the server to avoid any problems later on as your library of files starts to build up

Alternatives Considered

Adobe Connect was the tool we used because we could record sessions and share files within the meetings themselves. Both Adobe Connect and Google Hangouts allow you to share your screen, but you have to connect with the person on Google Hangouts first. With Adobe Connect, you can simply email a meeting link and password so the person can have access.

We selected Vidyo for its ability to integrate with other software used in the company and the ability to have multiple users without an additional investment. We could pair it with the conference hardware we already had installed at our conference rooms plus every user could have it on their desktop as well. Vidyo's quality for video and voice is better.

  • Adobe Connect made it easier for us to engage team members from across the country on projects.
  • Adobe Connect was a great collaboration platform but we struggled to use it with robust software programs like AutoCAD
