Adobe Experience Manager

Adobe Experience Manager is well suited for large organizations that need a powerful, comprehensive and robust CMS to manage multiple websites/translations of websites. It is also well suited for those who need a CMS that is well integrated with other systems such as analytics, targeting and email marketing, or those who want some fancy add ons like Adobe smart tags or AI-enhanced capabilities. It is also an expensive product with a steep learning curve, so it is less appropriate for smaller companies/individuals or those that don't need an overly robust system that is integrated with other digital marketing tools. If you're looking for a more affordable solution that is easy to pick up and play, go with a more basic WordPress or Joomla type option.

PayPal Here

If you have a retail experience for your customers that you would like to take off site, this is the perfect solution. I can also imagine that companies would use PayPal Here in their onsite retail shops as well. PayPal Here makes it very easy for someone to walk around and check people out without waiting in lines (similar to an Apple store).

Cons

Adobe Experience Manager

  • A lot of the OOB (Out Of the Box) components are still a little buggy and not fully ready to go without some minor tweaks.
  • Since the software was acquired not too long ago by Adobe, a lot of Adobe integrated solutions are not fully baked yet. That is getting better with time.

  • There are times where we have connectivity issues. I am not sure this falls directly on Paypal, but some sort of solution for times when there is poor cellular or internet coverage would be nice.
  • We really haven't had too many issues with the actual product. It does exactly what we were looking for.

I'll continue to use this product for many years. Adobe is making it clear they are taking customer feedback seriously and there continues to be growing demand for Adobe CQ implementations. As a developer, I find that there is still lots of room in this platform to try new techniques and really keep our implementations up to par with the latest standards.

I personally feel that AEM is very intuitive to use from an authoring standpoint. The entire CMS was engineered around the author. Everything about AEM is geared to helping authors generate and maintain content. There are ways that tool tips can be customized so that any individual could simply hover over and be guided step by step on how to author web content

Depending on your individual needs, It is really quite simple to create an authoring experience for a website that looks really good. I have been part of many implementations and many teams and have seen many projects that were super successful and others that were not implemented well. AEM has room for a lot of flexibility in the implementation process compared to other CMS like SharePoint

Alternatives Considered

Adobe Experience Manager

Have used a handful of other content management systems, all of which tend to be either proprietary or freeware -- and the latter presents a security issue. Adobe Experience Manager is easily the most feature-rich content management system I have used, but more features sometimes comes with inconveniences -- taking longer to load when accessing remotely (times out on slow Internet connections), slower taxonomy tagging, etc. It is also the most well-supported system I have used; Adobe is more responsive than most if glitches happen or in response to changes in Google practices for SEO, etc

Compared to Square, PayPal Here is less much less reliable. I have never struggled to take a payment with Square whether I was swiping the card or manually entering the card information. I feel like our customers are more accustomed to seeing the Square card reader as well and that they trust it more. I initially chose PayPal here because I was familiar with using PayPal outside of business and because the fees were competitive.
