CQ is best suited for multi-site projects that require frequent updates or new pages spun up very quickly and with the same quality as the rest of your site. It's also a great fit if you have extensive media libraries: pictures, videos, etc. The Digital Asset Manager is very powerful and if it's coupled with a CDN, it can be itself a great solution for that particular purpose alone.Key questions to ask would be:- How comfortable will our authors be with this publishing platform? What are their needs and wants? Can CQ accommodate them?- How skilled is our development team to take a project like CQ? The best of CQ comes when is customized but it will come with a price. Time and talent will be necessary to tweak it to the right fit.- Do we have enough time and resources to allow our technical and non-technical stuff to learn? Can we afford all the oficial training levels?

ServiceNow

- Very well suited for ITSM. Standards based approach with simple and natural alignment with ITIL. - Very good reporting tools and going beyond simple obvious dashboards with multiplatform capabilities including mobile. - Although not at the same level as ITSM capabilities, a multitude of other capabilities in the finance, HR, project and portfolio management and other business areas makes this a very interesting proposition for an enterprise platform.

Pros

  • Allows non-technical staff to author and publish content by focusing on the content itself and the needs of a given campaign instead of technical implementations.
  • Content workflows allow varying degrees of complexity for content review and quality assurance before providing approvals on any piece before going live.
  • Development teams can build very robust and complex component for handling virtually all posible needs: from integrating back-end web services to UI Widgets for content authoring; from multisite suites to multi-language components, CQ can handle it all thanks to the power of Java and the flexibility of Sling and JCR.
  • Easy to scale for high-traffic sites and thanks to the Publisher/Dispatcher infrastructure, very flexible for caching and load balancing.

  • Provides a standard and relatively easy way to create a system of records for enterprise assets.
  • Processes are clearly defined and implemented. Alignment with legacy processes is easy and best practices exist when this is not the case. Automation allows for easy implementation of workflows and use of APIs make integration with external platforms a breeze.
  • Self-Service user experience is great. Out-of-the box. No need to specialized, costly and hard to find consultants.

Cons

  • Cost. AEM is expensive.
  • Touch UI not as intuitive as classic UI.

  • Implementation is still the domain of major consulting companies. This requires large budget projects. It would be good to develop an education and certification program to reduce the need for major integration companies.
  • Maybe confusing at the beginning, too many fields, too much information. Is there a way to start simple and grow?
  • Pay attention to overpromising. The company has great marketing material, great sales people, making it seem to be the tool for all IT needs, but the road may be long and costly.
  • ServiceNow could be a very good enterprise-wide platform but you need to prepare for significant integration and be ready to adopt standard processes.

Likelihood to Renew

Adobe Experience Manager9.0

If I had the choice to renew, I would. Adobe CQ is one of the better CMS's I've been able to use. It's well organized, fast and easy to use. Although it is a little high in price, the fact that it does a good job justifies the decision to renew

Usability

I personally feel that AEM is very intuitive to use from an authoring standpoint. The entire CMS was engineered around the author. Everything about AEM is geared to helping authors generate and maintain content. There are ways that tool tips can be customized so that any individual could simply hover over and be guided step by step on how to author web content

The Geneva version has improved overall usability a lot, but would still be overwhelming for new users. Much like SAP or other large-scale applications- it can be very daunting when you get the first glance of all the modules, but you'll get the hang of it after some training and strong discipline.

To type in what should be a text box, you have to click an empty cell, a tiny text box pop up opens with a check box and an X. You the. Type in the text box and have to click the check mark. If you have a bunch of fields to fill out, doing this is very annoying. Absolutely know thought went in to this. I'm sure somebody in marketing thought it was a good idea. It wasn't.

Implementation

Adobe Experience Manager8.7
Based on 2 answers
Depending on your individual needs, It is really quite simple to create an authoring experience for a website that looks really good. I have been part of many implementations and many teams and have seen many projects that were super successful and others that were not implemented well. AEM has room for a lot of flexibility in the implementation process compared to other CMS like SharePoint

Without exception, every client I have worked with has been very happy with their resulting product. While this is partly due to my work, I must point out that the platform is the winning decision, not the implementer.

Alternatives Considered

Have used a handful of other content management systems, all of which tend to be either proprietary or freeware -- and the latter presents a security issue. Adobe Experience Manager is easily the most feature-rich content management system I have used, but more features sometimes comes with inconveniences -- taking longer to load when accessing remotely (times out on slow Internet connections), slower taxonomy tagging, etc. It is also the most well-supported system I have used; Adobe is more responsive than most if glitches happen or in response to changes in Google practices for SEO, etc

When we reviewed BMC offerings and compared with ServiceNow in late 2012, ServiceNow had the most flexibility and I believe still has the most flexibility if you're comfortable with the underlying platform and have a strong guiding service philosophy. You can make the tool do anything, but the real questions are "Why?" and "What are you getting from doing it that way?" Most ITSM tools are just tools, whereas ServiceNow is a tool that was used to make itself. It is a platform/environment for cloud publishing and they happened to make an ITIL ITSM app on it at first because that's what Fred Luddy knew best, then had faith that IT departments around the world would have the talent to make more meaningful, greater things with it.

  • We have been able to update our accounting to see who is compliant and who is not.
  • it has added a bit more manual labor for our Business Development department to make sure the information in iServe syncs with both our Hubspot & Zoho CRM systems.
