Adobe Experience Manager

If you have a number of smaller parts of your organization that you want to maintain the same look & feel as the rest of the organization, it is easy to create a base site and then let them customize. Also, if you have contributors of content who are not involved in the web site maintenance - our professors, for example - they can enter the text on a basic page which is then incorporated through tagging

ServiceNow

ServiceNow is a perfect and great fit for A to B style helpdesk ticketing! I would tend to shy away from this product is your project management shop is on the medium or larger scale. It is ok for smaller projects but not for large complex, multi-team projects. ServiceNow is also great for establishing routine and frequently used workflows that you want to publish to an external or public customer base. There is a lot of potential to relieve a lot of administrative overhead but it requires a lot of back end work to see those results.

Pros

  • It is easy for people who are not web designers to achieve an attractive and useful website
  • It is easy to manage users and their permissions
  • It allows users to assemble their digital assets in one place, for use on the web site
Diana Williams profile photo
  • Navigation is fluid and easy to follow.
  • Customizing views to suit your need is a breeze.
  • Generating reports that you need is "fun" as there are many built-in options as well as the ability to create your own.
  • Exporting reports in various formats help as different clients prefer different products.

Cons

  • Upgrading and applying patches can be hit or miss - I recommend backups because of the potential to damage the existing infrastructure
  • Space management is an issue - every change or request takes up space that can be reclaimed, but only through a complicated procedure done through command prompts. There was no documentation for this on their site and we had to use a third party to create the procedure. It has to be run manually.
  • There isn't a good backup system, particularly one that can be scheduled to run reliably.

  • Sometimes too much, is just that; too much. SN offers so much, that you can kind of get lost in all its features.
  • Color customizing would be nice for those with visual impairments.
  • Cost is steep, but you do get a lot.

We had and still have a fantastic experience using Adobe CQ. Lots of flexibility, great integration with other Adobe products we already use and a powerful technology make it a great fit for our corporate environment. Also as the community grows, it makes it easier to network with other developers and users to get new ideas on how to continue to get the best out of the software.

Usability

I personally feel that AEM is very intuitive to use from an authoring standpoint. The entire CMS was engineered around the author. Everything about AEM is geared to helping authors generate and maintain content. There are ways that tool tips can be customized so that any individual could simply hover over and be guided step by step on how to author web content

The dashboard is so confusing, [there are] many clicks to open a task and search by a ticket. The Enterprise customisation [we did] has finished to kill the software and creates a really bad experience on a daily basis. [It is] So slow, and so many clicks to process a ticket. Works only on IE so, that [should] make you realize that [it] is a bad idea.

To type in what should be a text box, you have to click an empty cell, a tiny text box pop up opens with a check box and an X. You the. Type in the text box and have to click the check mark. If you have a bunch of fields to fill out, doing this is very annoying. Absolutely know thought went in to this. I'm sure somebody in marketing thought it was a good idea. It wasn't.

Implementation

Adobe Experience Manager8.7
Based on 2 answers
Depending on your individual needs, It is really quite simple to create an authoring experience for a website that looks really good. I have been part of many implementations and many teams and have seen many projects that were super successful and others that were not implemented well. AEM has room for a lot of flexibility in the implementation process compared to other CMS like SharePoint

Without exception, every client I have worked with has been very happy with their resulting product. While this is partly due to my work, I must point out that the platform is the winning decision, not the implementer.

Alternatives Considered

We selected Adobe CQ mostly for the ease of page authoring in brought to our non-technical staff. Powerful and simple UI widgets made it very simple for our merchandiser to create, edit and publish new pages. It also allowed us to customize those widgets to fit their needs while keeping the same clean experience. We also saw a plus in the ability to run activation workflows based on our own organization hierarchy, which helped make sure the right pages were exposed to the right eyes before going live. Overall, it was the mixture of user-friendliness of the authoring interface with the robustness of the technology stack that convinced us to go with CQ.

Transitioning over to SN was a concise and easy process. No data loss and not a long wait to be up and running. The biggest notice off the bat was how much quicker and simpler SN is to use compared to predecessors. Customization and Reporting. Everyone wants his/her own report with specific content, organized in a way pertinent to them. SN allows for this, and more!

Return on Investment

  • Our direct business landing pages have seen an increase in ROI since switching to Adobe Experience Manager.
  • Our non-direct pages have seen a severe drop-off in traffic and conversions since the switch to Adobe Experience Manager. The more creative, editorial-type content that used to be imperative to our site is now relegated to second tier. Just getting a "content hub" with this site was a beast of a project.
  • The overall efficiency of our web team has increased with bulk edits, so that they can make single updates and impact our multiple sites. This is a huge money-saver for team staffing.

  • SN ease of use has cut down on the learning curve, and thus the amount of time it takes to train a new hire.
  • I'm not sure on the financial side, but from a workability side, SN gets customers "in and out the door" much faster than it's predecessor. (ServiceCenter in my environment)
  • Technicians can update quicker, and easier, creating a greater likelihood of meeting SLAs. Meeting SLAs is bread and butter for our contract's overall success.
