I think it is good to keep in mind the type of business application you have in mind when selecting Media Optimizer for your company. For us, as an agency, it makes sense for us to utilize the reporting and paid search optimizing portions for our clients as we manage over 300+ clients PPC campaigns. With this tool it is possible to set up campaigns easily and as long as the parameters are set correctly within the portfolio, there is a great opportunity for the tool to do its job and use the simulation/modeling process to run and grow a paid search campaign with ease of human interaction.

Google Ad Manager

It is only suited for marketing. Make sure you have analytics on your site to track the people coming, final sales, and conversions because it is at it's best when you can use it to really read and understand the data at hand. Google Ads does everything it needs to in ads, and you don't need to be an expert to begin with it. However, I would not just tell someone to "go create an account" if they know very little about digital ads. Consult with someone first. It can be a little daunting if you were to do that!

  • An all in one solution for so many things that range from advertising campaigns to pushing out content to PPC.
  • Integration for many channels without much setup, this includes lesser known search engines and various social media partners.
  • Automation for delegating many tasks that can be a hassle to accomplish.

  • The Doubleclick manager is very intuitive and allows anyone without extensive experience to jump in and start managing ads.
  • My favorite feature is it allows you to manage all of your ads in one place.
  • The training and user forum knowledge is top-notch. I can always find the answer to any questions I have.

  • High price. Although it is very functional and you can improve profit margins the product itself is expensive.
  • It is complicated to use. You need a lot of time and dedication to learn how to use it.

Google Ad Manager

  • Sometimes it can bog down and crash. This is rare, but it is processing a lot of steps/changes all at once and it's not expected to be perfect.
  • Being able to quickly filter by campaign types would be nice (PPC/Display/Video Pre-roll). Our fix is to run these campaigns in totally separate accounts, so there is no overlapping in reporting/etc. This helps with seeing stats clearly without having to filter constantly.
  • It could be visually prettier.

As of this writing, we have just discontinued our use of Adobe Media Optimizer. Other vendors gave us a better rate, a better contract option, and the product is just better than what we had with Adobe at the time. We may revisit Adobe again at the future, but it seems like they have a lot of work to do to catch up with the leader in the space

It definitely takes some instruction to get to be able to use the system. One would struggle trying to get it to work without any previous experience with it. If you are famailiar with the interface it is actually quite fast and easy to maneuver around.

The reason being that support is extremely hard to reach, after the initial training period was over support became much harder to get from Adobe Media Optimizer's customer service agents which no one wants to deal with and we had to wait a long time for many inquiries to get answered

They always respond in 24 hours and can get the answers most of the time. For questions which cannot be answered initially, I don't need to escalate. The rep will ask their 'colleague' if needed..

Google Ad Manager

Google Ad Manager is one of the only free to use ad management services out there. While there are several alternatives such as OpenX and Adzerk, Google Ad Manager provides the best bang for your buck (considering you don't spend any money on the actual product itself). Although there are several other ad networks out there that allow you to do exactly what Google Ad Manager does, having a free product with a giant network of available advertisers makes ad manager near-perfect.
