Adobe Premiere Pro

Adobe Premiere is a program to have professional results. This program has amazing design tools. It is a program that we use to make videos with professional audios and transitions between images. We recommend this software to make precise cuts and build a video with parts of other videos. Its use is to look for results that allow you to have important achievements.
Now, this program is not for making simple video edits, because we believe it would be wasted

Final Cut Pro X

Final Cut Pro X, in my experience, has been fantastic for use at small shops and for the size projects I tend to work on (1-3m in length). It always functions well when exporting longer lectures or employee training videos. I've never had an issue with too many lines of video or audio. It's a well organized, intuitive editor with a feature set of editing tools (effects, generator, etc.). Apple has kept up with all newer forms of cameras, so compatibility is never an issue. While I've also edited short features. I can't speak to Final Cut Pro X's current capability in editing feature-length films compared with other platforms (Premiere, Davinci resolve, Avid, etc.)

Pros

Adobe Premiere Pro

  • The color tab at the top of the program enables quick edits and adjustments to color correction and grading. Very similar to Lightroom.
  • GPU acceleration. GPU accelerated effects are labeled to help you decide how and what effects to use for smoother editing.
  • Labels and organization is made easy with the ability to color code your various clips in the timeline and bin.
  • The audio tab at the top makes audio adjustments quick and easy. It has many of the features that Audition has built in.

Final Cut Pro X

  • I really like the color correction capabilities within Final Cut Pro X. I think, even if you were new to it, that tool would feel pretty intuitive.
  • Sorting through and filtering different types of clips, photos, etc. is simple and straightforward. I especially love being able to hide things that have already been used in my timeline.
  • For my current purposes, being able to export straight to YouTube is surprisingly helpful. I can set privacy settings from Final Cut Pro X so a video can upload and be available only to the intended viewers, OR to any supporter looking at our YouTube channel.

Cons

Adobe Premiere Pro

  • There are a lot of third party add-ons. It would be nice if PP offered more filters.
  • Sometimes trying to get a video to load into the Source Monitor, it doesn't want to work.
  • Export media occasionally fails.
  • PP used to offer a whole bevy of export media options. It was nice! Then they updated the program and took all those away. Not happy about that.

Final Cut Pro X

  • I would love to see Apple implement a shared cloud project functionality like Final Cut Pro.
  • it would be good to have the option to use a linear editor if you want to, it would be nice to have both options.
  • The file references should be relative to the project file so if you have all your files under one folder and you move the whole folder to another drive you don't have to relink all the fils.

Final Cut Pro is a great software package for editing, and obviously, good things require training to understand and comprehend what your are editing. I do not give a 10/10 because it would be easier to have a comprehensive manual inside the software, rather that researching or getting yourself trained.

We have only ever had to use their online knowledge base to get answers to all our questions.Along with what Adobe provides, the user base for Premiere Pro is very large, so there is a lot of information available for free. Any question you might have will have multiple videos and written content to walk you through solving your query.

Along with having Final Cut Pro X you are supported by Apple because it is a product of Apple. Their customer support is top tier and if we ever have any problems with this software I do not have a doubt in my mind that we would be able to find a resolution quickly and efficiently.

Implementing Final Cut Pro into the organization was a smooth transition from what we didn't had. We felt we went from zero to hero with this software, due to all the great features that we learned. We took some time in training staff on how to use the software but at the end, this was very useful and important.

Alternatives Considered

Adobe Premiere Pro

Adobe Premiere Pro is by far the best video software of the selected products. It does not have the best audio editing capabilities nor video graphic design capabilities but good enough ones where it can help you out in a pinch if your primary goal is to edit the video. The best-case scenario is to use Premiere Pro alongside the rest of the Adobe Creative Suite and maybe bring in ProTools for things like audio editing and ON24 for streaming services. Adobe Premiere Pro is far more intuitive than Final Cut Pro will ever be and its integration with the creative suite makes it a far more affordable option for any video editor.

Final Cut Pro X

I first learned to edit on Adobe Premiere Pro, and then FCP7. Comparatively, FCP7 just worked. Adobe crashed all the time (back in the day). Apple clearly also had the edge on the user interface - not just doing what NLEs had been doing for years but making improvements to the process of editing. When I switched to FCPX it was tough at first, but once I became accustomed to the magnetic timeline, I realized it was once again the changes were for a better user experience - saved time - and let you focus on story first and take the computer out of the way. Premiere Pro - through a solid editing platform, hasn't changed much over the years and still requires much of the clunky key-stroke heavy processes that early NLEs required. Avid is ancient compared to FCPX - and only those who learned it in film school or have been in the business for years stick with it. It's time to get with the era we're in and move beyond our processes, get the computer out of the way and let good editing be good editing and storytelling triumph. FCPX is the most natural editing process you will find.

Return on Investment

Adobe Premiere Pro

  • Adobe hasn't had a direct impact on our company's ROI. It has been used for videos disseminated internally or through social media. It has been a communication tool.
  • While we don't look to Premiere Pro to be a money-maker, it has raised the bar and ambition of our video-related projects, which could have the knock-on effect of giving us an image boost in the long run.

Final Cut Pro X

  • Much of the industry uses Final Cut Pro X for their video production, so swapping edit files or hard drives loaded with footage is more often than not compatible. It's always frustrating when you want to help someone on a project only to find you have a different version of the same software, or different software altogether.
  • Its ability to export the finished project into many different formats has been very helpful. Many film festivals and distributors have their own preference of what you give them, and FCPX can handle most if not all of them.
  • I still wish you could rent them. Sometimes the price tag hurts when you haven't had a project in a few months and wish you could have saved a few hundred dollars.
