Adobe Premiere Pro

Basic video editing for most people seems to be a real enigma. Premiere Pro is best suited for somebody with a background in other Adobe products, such as Photoshop or Illustrator. Most people will likely get lost in the abundance of features and functionality within Premiere Pro

Wrike

I've tried other project management and collaboration tools but Wrike is it for me. I have no project management certifications but I am technically savvy. Some PM tools were overkill for my needs but Wrike easily did what I wanted it to do: schedule multiple marketing channel activities and assign tasks related to getting them out. For example, we had direct mail campaigns, email blasts, social media posts and industry specific ads that went on throughout the year. I was able to schedule everything and generate monthly and quarterly schedules for senior management so they knew what we were doing in advance. I assigned tasks to graphic designers and others on the team related to each project. In terms of more traditional project management, Wrike can do that too. Gantt charts, scheduling resources, dependencies, time management, etc. It is awesome for web design projects.

Pros

  • The seamless integration with After Effects makes it simple to import After effects projects directly to your project library.
  • I really like the ability to edit audio directly, either through an integration with Audition or directly in Premiere Pro.
  • The export features make it easy to export your sequences or project to any format you need.

  • Wrike offers custom fields including data accumulation for every project/group, so you can track any kind of project in any business.
  • You can use Wrike together with clients or partners by inviting them with different user rights.
  • You can manage different accounts for e.g. different companies you work for with only one login. For example you can manage an enterprise account for your company, and a simple account for your private projects without either parties notice/each other if you don't want to.

Cons

  • Creative Cloud Subscription Service — Premiere is part of the Adobe Creative Cloud subscription service. This means that software is not a one-time purchase, but rather part of on-going pay-to-play. Adobe does not offer the ability to purchase software per version which can frustrate users who are not worried about regular updates and would rather make a single software purchase and have access to it for life.
  • Learning Curve — Due to its large selection of tools, utilities, and menus, Premiere can be difficult to just "jump in" and use without prior video editing software experience. Basic production editing can be learned quickly with additional resources (such as YouTube or training courses), but more in-depth functions may take users time to learn to access and use efficiently. Adobe provides some learning resources, but additional free training as part of the Creative Cloud would be beneficial.
  • Additional Preset Templates — Adobe Premiere implemented new templates for lower-thirds, titles, and other graphics in a recent update. However, there are only a select few templates to choose from for each category. It would be nice to have additional templates added in a future update for individuals looking to quickly create without manually creating each aspect of the production.

  • The iOS apps need more functionalities of the web version.
  • It should be possible to start the enterprise plan with less than 25 users.
  • A desktop app for OS X/Windows would be great so that working offline would be possible (it's sad but a reality that there are still areas where there is neither wifi nor LTE and this is really a pain if you travel a lot but want to work).

Wrike has proven to be a versatile tool that we use in several ways. We use it as our CRM tool because of its lighter footprint and ease of use. Other CRM software can be too large for our needs and make things too complicated. We also use it as a tool to record our meeting minutes as well as note talking points for future meetings.

Over two years of (almost) daily usage without outages. Don't remember any errors. I give it 9 only because some Wrike plugins (for online document edit) are based on NPAPI architecture. These types of plugins are being phased out in new browsers, and NPAPI plugins are disabled by default in recent versions of Chrome so you have to do some browser adjustments when you switch browsers or move to another computer.

Their support was done mainly through email and depending on their work lord, could take longer to get a response. But the response was still within a reasonable time frame and courteous every time.

Wrike does a great job of provide a breadth of videos for learning their program. This includes a 'getting started' sett of videos along with a collection of more in depth videos to assist more experienced users. Combined with their excellent chat support learning wrike is easy and it includes easy access to best practices.

Stick with it and resist the temptation to slack in your use of project management software.

Alternatives Considered

In my opinion, recent times there is an equal competition between those two. If you want to decrease the cost of machine acquisition on windows that can decrease your investment cost since Macs are pretty expensive.

Wrike offers high flexibility and tons of features for a reasonable price. The size of a project/group doesn't matter, you can track quick tasks or very detailed project layers. The table view in Wrike offers easy access to Excel fans who normally organize their work in different files and often have difficulties to adopt other ways of project management.

Return on Investment

  • Premiere has had a positive impact, for sure, on our overall business objectives.
  • It has been helpful to provide more avenues of training our associates.
  • It is well worth the cost of a monthly Adobe CC membership to be able to use it when we need it.
Danny Wood profile photo
  • Helped improve project management and coordination among virtual teams.
  • Difficult to get the organization to adopt wrike as people did not want to take the time to learn it.
  • Helped us manage evolving timelines and future tasks.
