Adobe Presenter

Although it's pricey and has some issue, Adobe Presenter has been an awesome solution for our business. If my opinion regarding presentation and training tools is required, my answer will be in favor of Adobe Presenter. I would certainly recommend to someone who can effectively use it to solve their problems

Pros

  • The drag and drop method of Adobe Presenter makes the software really easy to learn and use. It allows me to create presentations that are much more powerful and creative.
  • I LOVE the YouTube help videos. I feel like there is a help video on every topic I have ever wanted to know more about. I have almost grown to be an expert based on the help videos posted. They are easy to access and user-friendly.
  • I use the scenario templates. Because I teach programming courses, students can go different ways based on the knowledge that they already have of the content in the courses. The built in scenario templats allow me to create dynamic courses that are different for every learner that uses the course I am teaching them.

  • Industry expert authors/instructors - you're learning from people with pedigree.
  • Breadth and depth of catalog - not only is there a wide range of topics and disciplines, but there are frequently several levels of depth within each (eg. Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced).
  • Time needed to complete each course AND each section of a course are included - you know what you're getting into from the first click.

Cons

  • Sometimes I feel like Presenter feels too much like Power Point. This may make some users not want to use the software.
  • I have a hard time when saving presentations and then pulling them up in other locations- it often takes longer than I want to wait, but I am a millennial (I think?).

  • Knowledge checks are infrequent - as of this writing, they have begun to beta-test adding in a "How much do you know?" knowledge check at the beginning of some courses.

My company is pretty invested in the Adobe ecosystem and is unlikely to change that in the foreseeable future. Also, Adobe Presenter is a very valuable tool and, with the new subscription model and the pricing we have, a relatively modest expense now. It's also fairly easy to learn and use, so it is starting to spread beyond the sphere of the various Learning & Development departments.

It can help all employees learn to strengthen current skills or to learn new skills and then can learn to excel in their current department or they learn a new skills in a new department creating interconnection and cross-departmental value in a company.

Usability

Adobe Presenter7.3
Based on 1 answer
For all of the reasons I mentioned earlier. Overall, it's quite easy to create basic presentations with and to publish output with, either to an Adobe server, an LMS, or, I think, as stand-alone module. But there are some areas for improvement and better in-product help and explanations would be helpful, as well.

Lynda.com is very simple to use, from finding videos to watching to going back and finding the chapter you want to re-watch. Love it all!

Support

Adobe Presenter3.6
Based on 1 answer
I think I pretty much answered this earlier....premium support is extremely expensive and online support can be difficult to navigate. Although, to be fair, when it comes to Presenter (compared to, say, Captivate), there isn't too frequent a need for support, since Presenter is a rather simple tool to use

Alternatives Considered

Adobe Presenter was the first product we started using. We were lacking something in our system and someone recommended Adobe Presenter to us. After carefully reviewing aspects of Adobe Presenter, we figured it will be best for our needs. Although the transition period was a little tough for us, in a couple of weeks time we were very comfortable with it.

While ease of use is better with Udemy or Coursera, nothing compares to lynda.com's catalog and pricing model (other than Khan Academy re: the latter).

Return on Investment

  • I feel like we have increased productivity of educators and learners. If you've already invested in the Office suite, there isn't a large learning curve for educators, so that is a huge positive when it comes to the lack of training required for the software.

  • We have always renewed lynda.com because of the convenience of the whole learning system.
  • Flexibility
  • In-depth knowledge transfer.
