Adobe Presenter

I love using Presenter to turn old, boring, and stagnant material into interactive course material. The software is useful for educators looking to author online courses or to author courses with an online portion. If you need a software that will enable you to take content you already have and then to make it more dynamic, offer students options of which way to go with their learning, then this is the software for you. The tools are similar to the office suite, so there isn't a steep learning curve.

It works well for just uploading SCORM compliant courses. We don't use it for managing ILT courses as it was complicated when we last tried it. We also do not sell courses, but I don't think that it's capable of doing that

Pros

  • This tool is great for allowing anyone already familiar with PowerPoint to convey reasonably simple and short content asynchronously. It's quick and easy to learn how to use it and even allows for some basic types of quiz questions.
  • You can publish it to your company's Adobe server (if you have one) or as a SCORM package to upload to a traditional LMS.
  • It gives you the choice of recording audio within its own PowerPoint ribbon (not my method of choice) or to import and sync audio created outside of Presenter (which I prefer, because it's easier to edit and maintain.)
  • I also love that it comes with Adobe Presenter Video Express, which can be used within the Presenter ribbon or as a stand-alone application. It's a very easy way to create short system demos with narration, and allows for zooming and panning, as well as allowing you to intersperse, or even simultaneously show, webcam video.

  • It allows for simulations to address complex scenarios in the healthcare setting.
  • We can quickly review reports to see completion rate of an activity.
  • We have empowered our upper managment to utilize the tracking functionality to have quicker compliance on education modules.

Cons

  • Sometimes I feel like Presenter feels too much like Power Point. This may make some users not want to use the software.
  • I have a hard time when saving presentations and then pulling them up in other locations- it often takes longer than I want to wait, but I am a millennial (I think?).

  • Staff would like to see the links of assigned training to allow users to launch into an activity
  • Offer more reports within the programs so users dont have to make their own

My company is pretty invested in the Adobe ecosystem and is unlikely to change that in the foreseeable future. Also, Adobe Presenter is a very valuable tool and, with the new subscription model and the pricing we have, a relatively modest expense now. It's also fairly easy to learn and use, so it is starting to spread beyond the sphere of the various Learning & Development departments.

I have transitioned from a position who supported the product to a position where I use the product. I continue to be impressed with the robustness of the product and how efficient it is. It is a user friendly software that can be used to navigate and accomplish tasks to meet organizational requirements.

Usability

Adobe Presenter7.3
Based on 1 answer
For all of the reasons I mentioned earlier. Overall, it's quite easy to create basic presentations with and to publish output with, either to an Adobe server, an LMS, or, I think, as stand-alone module. But there are some areas for improvement and better in-product help and explanations would be helpful, as well.

I do not find SumTotal to be intuitive. I feel we need to adjust our needs to meet the functionality available in the tool.

Support

Adobe Presenter3.6

I think I pretty much answered this earlier....premium support is extremely expensive and online support can be difficult to navigate. Although, to be fair, when it comes to Presenter (compared to, say, Captivate), there isn't too frequent a need for support, since Presenter is a rather simple tool to use

Alternatives Considered

Adobe Presenter was the first product we started using. We were lacking something in our system and someone recommended Adobe Presenter to us. After carefully reviewing aspects of Adobe Presenter, we figured it will be best for our needs. Although the transition period was a little tough for us, in a couple of weeks time we were very comfortable with it.

Maestro is a little dated looking. Younger users are looking for something up-to-date, interactive, fun, and easy to use and Maestro has a ways to go with this

Return on Investment

  • I feel like we have increased productivity of educators and learners. If you've already invested in the Office suite, there isn't a large learning curve for educators, so that is a huge positive when it comes to the lack of training required for the software.

  • Having all training/learning records in one tool allows users to have their record follow them when they move in the business. This reduces the need for retraining and time spent on data entry.
