Adobe Sign

When working often with contracts and the need to keep track of a lot of different clients, Adobe Sign is really helpful. Early in my business when I didn't have a large number of clients and I did most everything in person, it would have been a more unnecessary luxury for me. Now that I do a lot of work online and my clients are reaching farther and farther and more regularly hire me from over an hour drive away and sometimes out of state, I've found it extremely helpful when I can't meet in person. I've even moved to doing all contracts through Adobe Sign, even if we are meeting in person

Nitro Productivity Suite

If you only need to publish PDFs, MS Office does it well enough, but a PDF plugin is better. If you only need to read PDFs, you don't need anything more than MS Word or maybe Adobe Acrobat. On the other hand, if you need to extract pages, convert PDFs, or remix PDFs, then you need the features Nitro PDF provides. Nitro works well for my one-man-army, and could be implemented easily into small companies, too. The full Nitro Productivity Suite offers document management across multiple users where collaboration is required.

Pros

  • Incredibly easy to upload routine documents stored in account library or upload a brand new, customized document.
  • Website provides clear instructions for reader use. Also very easy to guide new users through signing documents.
  • EchoSign provides a signature audit summary that allows the tracking of signature progression. A very useful tool in proving signature email address, IP address and date/time stamp.
  • Website also provides opportunity to send reminders to document recipients to sign if they have not done so by a specific timeline.
  • Provides return receipt to the signer of the document once completed.

Cons

  • I do a lot of widgets within EchoSign and as far as I can tell there is no way to go back and edit the document if a change needs to be made without being required to redo the whole widget. Unlike uploading a document and having the capability of editing it once it is saved, widgets are a one time save and hope it is 100% correct. This gets particularly annoying when I am turning a 20 page document with lots of required and non required fields into a widget, one mistake means redoing the whole thing.
  • It seems there would be an easier process for archiving documents. A one or two click process would be nice and much easier for people I train to remember and grasp.
  • It may be due to my skill level but seems having more than one signer where one is optional gets a little tedious and difficult when it spans a large number of documents.

  • OCR doesn't work very well (honestly, does ANY optical character recognition work?)
  • Conversion sometimes results in artifacts and corrupted sections, but on the whole is pretty good.
  • Nitro PDF 11 wasn't very stable, but that seems to have been fixed with Nitro PDF 12

I have used DocuSign and Assure Sign before discovering EchoSign and once I discovered EchoSign there was no going back. The tech support for EchoSign has always been top notch. I can't go into much detail but I strongly feel that Adobe EchoSign gives us a competitive advantage over our competitor because of how easy it is to use and access from a client's point of view. EchoSign is easy to learn, train others on and gather the necessary information from clients and potential clients. Furthermore, we have so much time and resources wrapped up into EchoSign that the switching costs would be through the roof.

Online Training

The best types of training are well integrated into the product and Echosign does this well. As mentioned earlier in my review - there are some areas of functionality that can be difficult to understand ("only I sign") for the novice user.Other areas such as macro usage, bulk signature and so on were easily learned and understood via the online tools.

Make sure you set aside enough time to get properly trained on the system. We needed to act quickly on our initial use of this product and I did not have the time to go through all the proper training so it was basically go in and learn. I think it would have been much easier had I been given the time by the company to learn everything first.

Alternatives Considered

Docusign. We perceived that Docusign was strongest in the real estate market and might have more professional services. By contrast Echo sign doesn’t have any. However, I felt that Docusign makes people adopt their signature online out of the gate and creates a very different user experience. I think this makes the user uncomfortable. I also think their set-up a is a lot more confusing. It looks very legalistic in comparison to Echosign. By contrast, Echosign seems more user friendly. The style feels lighter like Mac vs. Windows

Return on Investment

  • Adobe EchoSign increases the speed at which agreements are signed and returned back to us. It used to be that we would email a PDF of the agreement and wait for the client to print it, fill it out and get it back to us which could take days and sometimes weeks. The longer the client took to get the required agreements and forms back to us the more revenue we would lose out on. Adobe EchoSign has given us a one to two day agreement completion time which means we can enroll clients in our services faster and start collecting money sooner.
  • Adobe EchoSign enables me to manage agreements by ensuring the correct versions are uploaded and being sent out. Before EchoSign, employees would always have some version saved to their individual hard drives and if changes were ever made it was difficult to make sure every employee was using the correct one. This has drastically reduced the time spent from a number of departments in fixing errors and reaching back out to clients.
