Adobe Social

Adobe Social is not well suited to any type of social publishing, reporting or listening, particularly on a large scale within a major enterprise. It can, on occasion, completely fail to do what is asked of it. Customer support is slow and representatives often don't even read the ticket properly and ask questions answered by the ticket.

Radian6

Radian6 has good capabilities for social monitoring and measuring. Any Org who wants to listen the real facts stated directly out from the crowd, this is a great tool.

Pros

  • Adobe Social lacks strengths, as I believe Adobe themselves have acknowledged, given their decision not to continue support or development. But if I need to list three strengths, the first would be it can publish to some social media platforms with a success rate of over 50%. If that's a strength.
  • It has workflow processes, but they are over-complicated and poorly designed.
  • It has some basic analytics, but Adobe consultants usually recommend referring to Adobe Analytics instead. Which is great if you actually use Adobe Analytics.

  • The amount of the information that radian6 can pull from multiple social platforms is absolutely phenomenal. Its just not only the pull but the way the information can be presented in dashboards was way good. It helped us understand in various aspects of our social presence.
  • Multiple profiles helped us to break down the Big/Huge social buzz cloud to smaller and more manageable pieces. This helped us concentrate on the lows and helped us to plan better on turning them to highs.
  • Radian6 allowed us to follow thru the crowd trends with the latest information presented in a single view. This also helped us to collect the social opinion on the product releases.
  • The ease of use, one need not be an expert to start using this platform. The interface is easily understandable by anyone.
  • A keyword can be edited quickly to tailor the needs and the results were quick.

Cons

  • Very poor reporting features
  • Product is very rarely updated with new features
  • Feels like a Beta product

  • Even with the nonprofit discount, the software is still quite expensive and there are limits to the amount of data that we can pull into the system. Pricing plans have data ceilings based on the number of topic profiles and mentions we pull into the system. Exceeding those limits incurs quite a bit of extra cost. For example, we would love to monitor supporters of peer organizations, but it is too expensive for us to do that.
  • We use Small Act Thrive for scheduling (and are interested in future functionality from Thrive allowing us to cross-reference social activity with our donor file). However, it would be nice if we could do everything in a single tool. I'm not actually sure if Radian6 allows for scheduling.

The service is on a downward spiral. Once a great product, Adobe is focusing their efforts in the wrong components of the tool. The listening component is not very good, yet seems to be the only component that Adobe wants to emphasize. Analytics are getting better in Facebook native and Adobe Social has not kept up. There would be great value in the tool if they were able to integrate more robust analytics for hard to measure platforms like Google+ and Twitter, but metrics for these are still scarce or inaccurate

• Pretty likely to renew. If we can find a single platform that does everything we want to do, we might be tempted to move.

Usability

Social moves at the speed of light, Adobe Social doesn't. I found posting via the system very cumbersome.

• Would rate this a 6. The User Interface is pretty intuitive, but the platform was still considered pretty intimidating by our non-technical staff when they first saw it. It took a while to get used to it and feel comfortable. There was quite a lot of setup work in the beginning (for example, we had to build our own reports using a canned report as a template, and this was not simple). Although it took a while to get it setup correctly, it’s quite intuitive once that work has been done.

The Adobe support team is really helpful. We have recently gone through a number of account reps since our favorite rep was promoted off of our account, so we are hoping for better service in our newest rep.

As mentioned previously, it can be hard to get through to people who can help you. On occasion when I have spoken to customer service/tech support, they all seem nice and try to be helpful, however instead of admitting the system cannot do certain things, they will persist it saying that it can, which results in many wasted hours overall.

Online Training

Training was long and a little confusing. While a number of features carried over, they were still covered in this elongated training. It would have been nice to have training tailored to experience level with the product.

There were lots of videos and articles online which helped me to figure things out. The platform itself is also relatively intuitive meaning that once you are used to it you can generally figure things out for yourself

Implementation

Based on 1 answer
The implementation was done during our POC. We had a very mixed experience here, and have had some issues arise since based on the way the tool was implemented. An Adobe employee went ahead and made a change to our account that was unauthorized (helpful for our implementation) which caused issues in on boarding another team who needed the same change, but could not get it done without costly Adobe certification

Alternatives Considered

Adobe Social is a unified platform; Salesforce's Buddy Media & Radian6 is not. Adobe Social easily integrates with Adobe Analytics and the rest of their Marketing Cloud

Did a brief evaluation of other tools, but at the time, Radian 6 was the industry leader

  • It helped us improve customer satisfaction and monitor the features they are concerned about our client's product/service
  • Provide post-sale customer service and pre-sale consultation
  • It helped our social campaign to find the right online community and market research often takes insight through Radian6 too.
