Dynamic Tag Management

If you're on the Adobe stack at all, you absolutely need DTM. It will make your life infinitely easier. It's so simple to update your Adobe Analytics code and have version control, and when we implemented Adobe Target, it took literally less than 15 minutes for me to do. I also think it's significantly simpler than Google Tag Manager. I went through all manner of difficulty when implementing tags on that and have not had similar problems on DTM. If you're frequently placing pixels, it's a great tool that will speed their deployment.The only situation in which I think a tag manager is not appropriate is if you have a dev with too much time on their hands. Otherwise, get a TMS and get DTM.

  • Easy to navigate the interface
  • Dependency on technical team is much less
  • Coding effort will be minimum

  • Publisher Diversity - Their exchange has pipes laid with the "who's who" of publishers providing a great conduit for our data to meet publishers.
  • Strong Customer Service - While there is plenty of documentation available online, it is nice having help a quick phone call away via our account manager.

Cons

  • People who worked on DTM only can navigate and process the rules, so there should not be a criteria complete the processing rules.
  • Framework kind of option should be available
  • Troubleshooting documents should be available in Google for implementation

  • Data is fairly priced but still tot expensive, especially for programmatic where clients are looking for efficiency in CPM pricing
  • You can utilize recency in terms of when a user hits a segment but that sometimes kills scale
  • Data in general isn't always actionable - we want to say that everyone is "in-market" but that's not always the case and because of it's pricing sometimes BT just doesn't perform as a tactic compared to other tactics like 1st party retargeting or various types of contextual and search retargeting tactics.

Alternatives Considered

Since we are using it almost exclusively with the implementation of Adobe Media Optimizer, we have not considered using a different tag management software.

I have used Adobe Audience Manager in past. Both have different pros and cons. AAM is better because of native integration with Adobe Analytics whereas Bluekai has better and higher quality third party data.
