Dynamic Tag Management

If you're on the Adobe stack at all, you absolutely need DTM. It will make your life infinitely easier. It's so simple to update your Adobe Analytics code and have version control, and when we implemented Adobe Target, it took literally less than 15 minutes for me to do. I also think it's significantly simpler than Google Tag Manager. I went through all manner of difficulty when implementing tags on that and have not had similar problems on DTM. If you're frequently placing pixels, it's a great tool that will speed their deployment. The only situation in which I think a tag manager is not appropriate is if you have a dev with too much time on their hands. Otherwise, get a TMS and get DTM.

Pendo is great if you are looking to understand the usage of your application. It allows to build heatmaps and get the data on specific pages and features usage, as well as it gives you the ability to build basic guides to enhance User Experience. I wouldn't recommend Pendo if you are looking for a very advanced and detailed tool. It has a lot of capabilities, but has its limitations. Don't get me wrong though - it is not a disadvantage, it provides all the key indicators and features that are most important and for us - it is perfect. This way it is not too crowded and makes it easy to use and understand.

As it interfaces so well with AMO, we shall be utilizing the DTM for any future client additions.

Pendo is easy to use, but you still need to know what you're tracking. Until then, it will show a lot of information that you may not know how to leverage.

Although it is a newer product to Adobe, they seem to truly care about our challenges and are very proactive in making sure that we have the most knowledgeable support available in a timely manner.

Alternatives Considered

Since we are using it almost exclusively with the implementation of Adobe Media Optimizer, we have not considered using a different tag management software.
Jay Corcoran profile photo
Pendo is more visual and offers better native user tracking, without the need to be a data scientist or master the tool. It plugs into your existing software and lets you overlay surveys, NPS, click, page, or even flow tracking with any developer interaction. Like others, Pendo can be deployed with Segment to reduce installation complexity.

Return on Investment

  • It has sped up the coding time of individual website 10 fold.
  • The rate of failure of tracking pixels to fire has dropped dramatically.
  • It has significantly sped up the progress of getting individual clients implemented into AMO.

  • We no longer have to wait weeks for an engineer to produce new product guides, which saves us time, lots of money, and frustration. We can have engineers focus on building new products and features while the product and design team focuses on the messaging and delivery to clients.
