ADP Enterprise eTIME

Well suited for situations in which individuals may be largely self-monitored and need to log irregular hours for company records. Also well suited for situations in which individuals may hold multiple positions within an organization.

Paymo

Well suited: tracking time, making notes to share with clients, live reporting. Less so: tracking and bookkeeping - they don't market it as a bookkeeping app, though they do allow for invoicing through it. Still, my needs are such that I use a separate app for tracking receipts against a project and then invoicing clients.

Pros

  • Monitors people who repeatedly punch in and out just before or after cutoff times.
  • Great for setting up ongoing schedules.
  • Easy to understand the system.

  • Paymo has a great (and customizable) at-a-glance dashboard. From there I can see upcoming milestones, how my employee billable and non-billable hours stack up, how accounts receivable is doing, etc.
  • My whole team loves the Paymo desktop widget. It makes timekeeping really simple and intuitive, and it helps us stay profitable. Timekeeping is always tough, and Paymo makes it as easy as possible!
  • Paymo customer support is fantastic! They really listen to the requests that their clients make. They even have an online community set up where you can submit suggestions, discuss suggestions with other clients and Paymo employees, and see the Paymo development path.

Cons

  • Could offer better training to the HR/Payroll Admins.

  • The ability to copy over a project to a new year but with zero time. It would be great if you could do that. This was our biggest issue.

Usability

ADP Enterprise eTIME5.0
Based on 1 answer
In some ways, the flexibility of eTime makes it much more usable than some time card systems. I can log my own hours at my convenience (as long as it is during the pay period), and eTime sends me a reminder email 24 hours before the cut-off for each pay period. I can log hours for multiple positions using particular pay codes, although there is no way for me to save frequently used or "my" pay codes -- adding this feature would be a much-appreciated improvement to eTime's usability. Juggling multiple pay codes within the current system, however, is cumbersome. There can also be problems if an incorrect or overlapping hour is accidentally entered and saved -- certain fields turn red and are difficult to adjust, often requiring the help of a software administrator. Correcting other errors and entering historical hours is extremely difficult, and the software does not work well on some browsers (and it is unattractive when I have been able to get it to work)

Alternatives Considered

It's a very similar system. ADP eTIME offers much more support through implementation and ongoing for users and admins. eTIME also seems more user-friendly and intuitive.

No competition.. Paymo was by far the best software for our needs.

  • They changed their plans, adding new features that I don't need - however, instead of finding that I was paying for something I didn't want, I happily found that I was now able to do all of my tasks on their free plan. This saves me about $11 a month which, while not much, is still very appreciated.
  • When I was first setting up my business, they took time to read some fairly detailed questions on how I wanted to use the app, and then made great, honest recommendations. In fact, we weren't able to do as I'd originally wanted and instead found a few workarounds that I've since incorporated into my daily habits. The ease of use is nice; the friendliness and support are invaluable.
