ADP Enterprise eTIME

Well suited for situations in which individuals may be largely self-monitored and need to log irregular hours for company records. Also well suited for situations in which individuals may hold multiple positions within an organization.

SAP ERP

SAP is great for large organizations looking to streamline their business processes. To get the most out of SAP's capabilities you would ideally be a large company with over 200 regular users spread across multiple sites. Also SAP works very well when dealing across multiple countries and managing multiple currencies. SAP would be less appropriate for companies where the head count was much smaller, lets say 100 users, and a single or maybe two locations were present. Also a highly customized environment with specialty processes may not be a best fit for SAP. Large manufacturing operations, in my opinion, are the best fit customers for SAP, think FORD, BURTON, SYSCO and so on.

Pros

  • Monitors people who repeatedly punch in and out just before or after cutoff times.
  • Great for setting up ongoing schedules.
  • Easy to understand the system.

  • One of my favorite things about SAP was the data integrity. Because of how easily the various modules tied together there was much less room for error.
  • Integration. The various modules that SAP has work seamlessly when configured correctly. SAP has a module for what seems like everything from manufacturing processes to Maintenance to Sales Forecasting and more.
  • Change Migration. Moving changes from a development, to testing, to production is very easy via SAP transports. Also refreshing DEV and QA environments from production can be accomplished easily.

Cons

  • Could offer better training to the HR/Payroll Admins.

  • There was definitely room for improvement in SAP ERP in having so many modules under one software, which was making the product more complex, and was requiring more training to understand all its features. This is even with all the efforts SAP have made for growth and launching different enhancement and product modules to make it simple.

The cost of SAP as an ERP is quite high and the switching costs associated with ERP systems are even higher. That being said moving from one ERP to another only happens once in a great while for large organizations. Those switching costs include retraining, IT hardware requirements, outside consultants and more

Usability

ADP Enterprise eTIME5.0
Based on 1 answer
In some ways, the flexibility of eTime makes it much more usable than some time card systems. I can log my own hours at my convenience (as long as it is during the pay period), and eTime sends me a reminder email 24 hours before the cut-off for each pay period. I can log hours for multiple positions using particular pay codes, although there is no way for me to save frequently used or "my" pay codes -- adding this feature would be a much-appreciated improvement to eTime's usability. Juggling multiple pay codes within the current system, however, is cumbersome. There can also be problems if an incorrect or overlapping hour is accidentally entered and saved -- certain fields turn red and are difficult to adjust, often requiring the help of a software administrator. Correcting other errors and entering historical hours is extremely difficult, and the software does not work well on some browsers (and it is unattractive when I have been able to get it to work)

Once you learn how to use SAP ERP, it becomes a powerful tool for analysis and inventory management.

Alternatives Considered

We haven't yet, but are considering moving from ADP altogether.

SAP is greatly superior to JD Edwards. JD Edwards was a manual, clunky system that didn't work well with other locations that were using SAP.

Return on Investment

  • It helps us get our employees paid, which keeps them happy!
No photo available
  • Positive because you have the transactions necessary for the complete functioning of the different departments (orders, deliveries, credits).
  • Negative at the moment that it is necessary to manage an order but [we] do not have the permissions of the transactions (prior to written authorization) and the responsible department is not there.
  • Negative because we have a way to send emails in SAP ERP but it is very complicated to use and we are using the email manager.
  • Negative because we don't have a simple and friendly way to send emails from SAP. It is very complicated to use and then we copy the information from SAP and paste in a new email message.
