ADP ezLaborManager

ADP ezLaborManager works well when you have several computers for your employees to access. If you don't, the delay for everyone to clock in/out can get very frustrating. Making sure to have the other suites with ADP also is recommended. The system didn't seem to be down often but was fairly quick to login and navigate.

SpringAhead

It is an easy time tracking application. It is simple and intuitive enough for any user to add time. Where it falls short is the ability to do more outside the main scope of the application. This is not a failure but just something to think about when evaluating products

Pros

ADP ezLaborManager

  • It captures the exceptions, so if you want to drill down to get answers as to where and why you are getting overtime; look at the exceptions.
  • The exceptions tell you where and what employees are clocking in/out early, late or on an unscheduled shift. Which again helps drill down to see where overtime is generated.
  • It gives you the options to check time-cards on a specific date range if you need to go back into the history.

SpringAhead

  • Allows for tracking of time very easily. Users can add all their project's time in one place instead of drilling into each project.
  • Managers can approve their team's time all in one place. We do not need to drill down to find the info and approve. Users who don't report to the manager but are part of the project can still be approved by the project manager.
  • Reports are easy to read when looking at historical information. Reports can be run with multiple parameters that the user needs.

Cons

ADP ezLaborManager

  • To cancel or delete a recurring schedule has too many steps for the managers to do so they ask me to do their updates for them.
  • Having several places to make updates is good but also can be bad. When you call ADP, everyone you talk with does things the way they were taught which in turns is you get a different answer. Then you have to remember, how did they do that again?
  • Sometimes less is more. If you update in one area, it does not cross over to another area that it may be tied to, then it's like you are doing double the work.

  • The reporting is not perfect. When I am trying to find history for one person it is very cumbersome to get the info you need.
  • At the current use there is no integration with an expense tracking tool. We had a separate app to track expenses vs. time.
  • Only resources on the project can view time. External customers could not log in to see users' time against the project. Instead they waited for invoices or status reports.

ADP is a good system to track information but, what it lacks is just some detail that provides time savings. Some instances they have made "updates" that tend to have been better previous to those "updates." One example is for staff to see how they have used their time off in the past. There should be an easy way to report and review such other than looking at pay periods. Pay statement and review and totals can also improve.

The training provided was based on a generic database and reporting which made it difficult to compare when you had your own database to work at. It also didn't provide good written materials that would be useful after the training session. It was more geared towards the practice tests or applications within the training.

SpringAhead

We selected SpringAhead because of price and usability. This tool is easy to set up and configure. It is a cloud application allowing access from anywhere. There were no training requirements. When you have a small use case this tool is the way to go. We moved off SpringAhead to get more functionality and it has required a lot more training and effort to maintain and utilize

Return on Investment

ADP ezLaborManager

  • Positive: allows us to use one system of recording time card information versus manually submitting time card information. This helps captures turn labor cost while the manual way had too many room for errors.
  • Negative: if you forget to archive a termed employee, you will still be charged a fee.
  • Negative: when you terminate an employee, it does not automatically cancel out the recurring schedule, so you have to manually update this yourself. Soft cost that could be avoided.

SpringAhead

  • Overall the usage of Springahead was very positive since it was easy to use.
  • There was a quick user adoption of the application. We were made very aware of this when we switched off SpringAhead for another app that combined time tracking and expenses into one app.
  • We have noticde a large learning curve with our new app to replace SpringAhead and when comparing the amount of time loss you can see there was a big impact to overall morale.
