ADP ezLaborManager

It's perfect for pulling tax related salary info in seconds. Sometimes figuring out different tax rates and amounts for customers can be lengthy, ADP makes this simple with this tool.

SpringAhead

It is an easy time tracking application. It is simple and intuitive enough for any user to add time. Where it falls short is the ability to do more outside the main scope of the application. This is not a failure but just something to think about when evaluating products

Pros

  • Ease of use: This system was particularly easy to use for employees, managers, and administrators. The user-friendly interface and straightforward design helped make accessing and using it that much easier.
  • Viewing: For employees clocking in the system it was easy to clock in/out and also see totals of each week worked along with totals in month/year and vacation accruals.
  • Reporting: This option for administrators was very beneficial and fairly simple to run for novice users.
  • Administrator: The ability to view all partners, edit any employee as needed and ease of making changes in a short period of time.

  • Allows for tracking of time very easily. Users can add all their project's time in one place instead of drilling into each project.
  • Managers can approve their team's time all in one place. We do not need to drill down to find the info and approve. Users who don't report to the manager but are part of the project can still be approved by the project manager.
  • Reports are easy to read when looking at historical information. Reports can be run with multiple parameters that the user needs.

Cons

  • To cancel or delete a recurring schedule has too many steps for the managers to do so they ask me to do their updates for them.
  • Having several places to make updates is good but also can be bad. When you call ADP, everyone you talk with does things the way they were taught which in turns is you get a different answer. Then you have to remember, how did they do that again?
  • Sometimes less is more. If you update in one area, it does not cross over to another area that it may be tied to, then it's like you are doing double the work.

  • The reporting is not perfect. When I am trying to find history for one person it is very cumbersome to get the info you need.
  • At the current use there is no integration with an expense tracking tool. We had a separate app to track expenses vs. time.
  • Only resources on the project can view time. External customers could not log in to see users' time against the project. Instead they waited for invoices or status reports.

Usability

ADP is a good system to track information but, what it lacks is just some detail that provides time savings. Some instances they have made "updates" that tend to have been better previous to those "updates." One example is for staff to see how they have used their time off in the past. There should be an easy way to report and review such other than looking at pay periods. Pay statement and review and totals can also improve.

The training provided was based on a generic database and reporting which made it difficult to compare when you had your own database to work at. It also didn't provide good written materials that would be useful after the training session. It was more geared towards the practice tests or applications within the training.

Again, since we have not used anything in the past, I can not compare one product to the other.

We selected SpringAhead because of price and usability. This tool is easy to set up and configure. It is a cloud application allowing access from anywhere. There were no training requirements. When you have a small use case this tool is the way to go. We moved off SpringAhead to get more functionality and it has required a lot more training and effort to maintain and utilize

Return on Investment

  • Positive: allows us to use one system of recording time card information versus manually submitting time card information. This helps captures turn labor cost while the manual way had too many room for errors.
  • Negative: if you forget to archive a termed employee, you will still be charged a fee.
  • Negative: when you terminate an employee, it does not automatically cancel out the recurring schedule, so you have to manually update this yourself. Soft cost that could be avoided.

  • Overall the usage of Springahead was very positive since it was easy to use.
  • There was a quick user adoption of the application. We were made very aware of this when we switched off SpringAhead for another app that combined time tracking and expenses into one app.
  • We have noticde a large learning curve with our new app to replace SpringAhead and when comparing the amount of time loss you can see there was a big impact to overall morale.
